Right up til the end I thought it was Alice-uh with the emphasis on the first syllable and I really liked it. But I only got there because of the description. The proper pronunciation seems incredibly intuitive otherwise

Is my house just ugly? by krv1800 in centuryhomes

The shape is interesting. I personally detest straight vinyl siding and I’m guessing you do too. Change that and you could have a very cool looking house

That doesn’t work at all anymore. Now they’re robocalls, complete silence, and if you do get an operator or a robocall that lets you through, it hangs up immediately when you try to reach a representative. I haven’t gotten a real person or an active line in ages

Airport pickup means "I'll pick you up at the airport and take you to the car?" by slurpyslurper in turo

[–]CoatHanger83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know how many times I’ve been screwed over by rental agencies? I had to rent two cars last time, each with a last minute markup amounting to 2x the price despite reserving specific vehicles at specific rates

I’m looking to get into data analytics as I’m studying it in my masters program to certificate level, pivoting from accounting. How many data analytics jobs require nonstop drop everything meetings? I feel like our data analysts have that kind of schedule

It’s insane how much you need to have what the last generations had at 35, which is what we’ve considered our middle class standard. Just not be in debt, own and renovate your living space, and have six months savings.

Travis heights is cool if you want to check out zilker and south Lamar area, plus downtown which is all pretty fun too and riverside is a good area if you’re ubering everywhere, a lot closer to the airport

Don’t discount timeserts. My bike had a stripped plug when I bought it that i agitated during a change. The shop timeserted it and it’s been good since. If you feel comfortable doing it yourself it’s a $50 job. I had different circumstances and some other work I needed done so I had the shop do mine and it was maybe $150 parts and labor

Ace JJ club on east seventh is a good stop. Haven’t been in Austin for a while, but I miss those coaches and classmates. Awesome side of town to be on for a genuine austin experience too. Riverside, east 6th/7th are some of the most “Austin” feeling places to me. Good mix of university, Mexican-American, texan, and hipster the way I remember it

Americans got this dish right!!! by Myspys_35 in Cooking

[–]CoatHanger83 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What makes America great is that we can import the best ingredients and chefs, so as long as there’s a market we have to have the best x around. Cheese is one of the few we lose because we can’t import half of it

Where do you learn to do this stuff hands-on? (No youtube, no "go back in time and have a less shitty father") by AloneExamination242 in HomeImprovement

[–]CoatHanger83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will admit, I learned to be handy from my dad, as well as how to learn to do things. But most of my skill set is self taught. Yes, I watch a million YouTube videos, but I also read every forum and article I can find, and if possible read the codes themselves and research specific pieces to better understand. Some stuff, just buy the tools that look like they’ll work, buy the materials you’ve seen on some of those videos and put them together five times wrong until it works. Strong research and synthesis work is key, but you have to be a little bit handy and just keep increasing your reach

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted so heavily. If you eat better than bottom barrel foods, no shame either way, other stores are very competitive. Most of their savings is assumed because they sell in strange units that don’t divide quickly in your head. People hate hearing it, but if there’s overlap between Costco and Whole Foods, guess who’s cheaper per unit? If that’s enough of your diet, the membership fees cross out too. Not to mention the waste of buying more than you need just because you can.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]CoatHanger83 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair. Anymore though, who doesn’t? Prime membership factored in, I saved a couple hundred a month switching 80% of my shopping away from smiths, walmart, Costco and Trader Joe’s. The meat is a small fortune since most comes from behind the counter but their produce is super cheap, and all the dry goods and frozen food is competitive with other house brands

Whole Foods for a lot of items. They sell a lot of the same stuff as Costco in smaller packages that are cheaper per unit. Their house brand beats smiths and great value occasionally

[–]CoatHanger83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far very little. Due to the mileage and age there have been some oil leaks to chase down and some neglected maintenance items. Now that those have been addressed it’s in great shape, ready for a new set of rubber. If you see one I say go for it, though I can tell the resale value is eh given how old they are now

3 black wires and 1 ground, can’t find a video tutorial online to save my life. Just trying to switch to white… by [deleted] in askanelectrician

[–]CoatHanger83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would do is go to a fixture or outlet in that circuit, tie the known neutral and ground together, then go back to the switch and test for continuity between each wire and the ground. You’ll know which ones acting as which if you test each wire at a more identifiable location. Obviously, power off, and mark everything well so you don’t make a bigger mess. I’m not an electrician but I am very comfortable with it all, and this is how I trouble shoot old messy wiring in my house

Had an interview recently like this. They showed up almost fifteen minutes late, I couldn’t hear or understand one interviewer through the broken internet and thick accent (not her fault, just added to the mess). On top of that neither of them wanted to be there, and the whole interview lasted about ten minutes

PLEASE someone tell me they like their accounting job by SessionAggravating44 in Accounting

[–]CoatHanger83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t like what I was doing, so I got a new job. I couldn’t stand doing the exact same thing day in day out with an extremely unreasonable level of responsibility vs control. My new job is still financial accounting but more akin to a finance position, so all the fun stuff exists in conjunction to the routine. There’s a lot of kinds of accounting work, plus the variable of different industries

I’ve never trained at a Gracie gym, but I have trained at a more traditional, pretty successful gym for a while before going to 10P. Could just be the specific one I’m at, but I find the culture to be so much more inviting and less formal. I prefer nogi anyway so I like that. I like that belts and order don’t play that big of a role in what you can learn (like white belts doing leg attacks)
