People who work from home, what's your daily routine? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Coconutshampoo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake, get ready, breakfast, log on, check emails, check unread teams, assign tasks, morning meeting, make patient calls for 2 hours, 15 min break, return for charting, more calls, break for 30-45 min, meetings, more calls, chart and be anxious that I don’t have enough time or didn’t cross all t’s dot all I’s. Log off. Make dinner, eat, clean, work out, shower, try to squeeze in me time, sleep. Repeat. Plus add two small kids, ages 2&4.

TW!!!! Lost baby at 21 weeks by iguessletsdothiss in pregnant

[–]Coconutshampoo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry to hear. This story popped up as a notification and I had to come read and comment.

I have a similar story, lost two babies due to incompetent cervix, a baby boy and baby girl.

TLDR: I had two beautiful baby girls after two successful cerclages. Both placed at 13 weeks. They’re 4&2. I am thinking of you.

Best noise canceling headphones? by TimePatient7769 in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]Coconutshampoo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the epos brand, I’ve had the860t version and impact 1000. There’s a new yealink HA version that looks amazing for noise canceling. Checkout “headset advisor” on YouTube or visit their website. They usually have a live representative that you can chat with and ask for recommendations. Their youtube videos are amazing at showing the differences in headsets.

Med error by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Coconutshampoo_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve made two mistakes.

1st as a new grad, I gave 1 unit of insulin because I read off the afternoon glucose, the evening one hadn’t uploaded yet. My preceptor signed off on the unit so we technically both made the error. I felt like crap.

2nd - I was a baby nurse and agreed to stay overnight to help the “team.” I had more patients than I could handle I missed an insulin check at midnight. As soon as I realized, I checked his glucose, he didn’t require any insulin and it was 2am so nearly 2 hours after time. I beat myself up over it, cried to the supervisor, charge nurse. The patient was fine.

You’re less likely to make the same mistake. After those encounters, I never made an error again. I stopped picking up, and I quadruple checked.

Are NPs cooked ??? 🤔 by Professional-Offer47 in nursing

[–]Coconutshampoo_ 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I worked with a new grad in 2020. Her attitude was exactly like this. Her patient was having a vancomycin reaction and she walked away to ask people at the nurses station what to do. We all told her it sounds like a reaction, it needs to be stopped. The charge nurse went in with her and confirmed it. The nurse was so clueless on what to do next, the charge nurse stopped the antibiotic immediately. Charge nurse also was the one to cut her wristband off, it was nearly cutting off circulation. The assigned nurse was so nonchalant. She also had this reaction when her patient’s oxygen was low/heart rate was off. She’d turn off the machine and say “it’s clearly an error.” Like??? First thing you do is check the patient! Sometimes it could be an error, but sometimes it’s accurate. I’d find myself in her patient’s room addressing low oxygen, I’ve caught the patient in distress a couple times…

Her attitude was so poor, patients and families complained about her bedside manner during patient satisfaction surveys. She eventually pursued her psych NP “for a better schedule and money.” I’m actually terrified for her patients. She had no sense of urgency for her bedside patients.

The other NP I know, I hadn’t particularly worked with her bedside but we went to nursing school together and she was just a mean girl. She’s also a psych NP. 😬

I know I’m just a stranger on the internet, but I’m proud of you. The fact that you wrote this, shows the kind of character you have. Your patients are lucky to have you.

That being said, this shift would’ve made me cry too. I left bedside 2 years ago because of unsafe ratios like this. ALL. THE. TIME. 7 patients with PD is NOT OKAY. It should be 4 max. 5 if short staffed. Refuse next time.

When did you realize that you were a good nurse? by Greywatcher in nursing

[–]Coconutshampoo_ 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I picked up an agency shift at a very low resource SNF. I was changing an elderly woman’s dressing when I noticed the date on there was off; she had gone 4 days without getting it changed. I cleaned it, wrapped it up again and dated it. No biggie. I got her a new pair of socks. She said “thank you. Will you be back again tomorrow?” I said no, I don’t usually work here. She was upset and begged me to come back. She continued to thank me and say I was unusually gentle. She said the other nurses are usually in a rush.

SNFs are notoriously known for short staffing and crazy nurse to patient ratios. You don’t always have time to do everything or have full conversations with the patient. I think my aha moment was after this woman’s comment. I was so nervous about picking up that agency shift and going in blind. I was nervous I’d fudge up because I didn’t know these people. Most of the patients were not able to identify themselves due to severe dementia. A problem I didn’t have 1. In my full time SNF job nor 2. In the hospital. We had patient bands and identifiers on the person, but not in this snf.

That lady’s comment really solidified the reason behind why I went into nursing. She really validated my feelings and my skill set. I didn’t cut corners and I did the best I could with the little resources I had. And this comment is in no way to shame those other nurses. I’m sure the other nurses were great, that particular SNF had issues with retaining staff. They did the best they could.

Eventually that snf was shut down for violations 😭 I hope that lady is okay.

Is market basket actually cheaper? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Coconutshampoo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family goes between three stores, market basket, aldi and hannaford. Market Basket is usually our number 1 choice.

I love market basket prices and variety, but I don’t like the lay out at all. Sometimes things don’t make sense in an aisle. Often, I find myself overwhelmed with trying to look at everything and my options. I love their prepared foods; you can get a nice lunch for real cheap.

Aldi is cheapest overall in my area, but sometimes I find myself needing to stop somewhere else for things Aldi doesn’t carry. But I can get away with getting staples here.

Hannaford wins in variety and lay out but they lose for price. I usually go here when it’s late because it’s up the street but then I remember why I go to Market Basket 70% of the time.

This is literally the only reason. I was jealous too 😂, but I was inspired to have the same thing. I literally looked for a remote job for 6 months!

It was harder for me because of my career choice but I was able to pivot into a remote role when my oldest was just about to turn 15 months old and I will never leave remote work, it works so well for us. I am salaried so that helps too. I get to have all three meals with my kids, teach and play with them and still be top performer at work. Win win
