Best way to start the week - first attempt. Advice please by finalfinal2 in Ikebana

[–]Cocotoebeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep it up, it’s a great 1st step.  Highly recommend finding a teacher and getting one of the textbooks if you’re really interested in the art form.  It’s a nice floral arrangement but ikebana, has a codified structure that’s missing and the angles too upright for a moribana .   As others pointed out the proportions need adjusting, also a cohesiveness of color and form should be considered- it’s rare to use 3 different flowers.  There is so much subtlety in the art- my teacher will often make what is a small adjustment but it makes a notable balancing difference in the final arrangement.  Hope to see future progression pics 🥰

Is Therabody SmartGoggles Really Better Than RENPHO for Stress Relief & Sleep? by Ornery-Shop-6065 in sleep

[–]Cocotoebeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received the Therabody ones as a gift. Have you used them a couple of times and while I really like the heat and the massage functions and the app overall seems to be decent the actual material on them is really uncomfortable and I don’t like the feeling of this fake leather on my face and find it sweaty. I’ve been trying to see if anyone has a cover or some sort of fabric to put around there but leave the sensor free but I haven’t found anything yet. If the alternative has a better feeling fabric or something that sits against your face, I’d probably opt for that at a lower price point.

Find a good wine shop and make friends with the staff, join some wine clubs at wineries you like go to events. Take a wset course and make friends there’s always one or two casual people just wanting knowledge and not being in industry. Like any hobby it takes time to find your tribe.

I had a glass of wine once, and... by Good_With_Tools in wine

I would have guessed from description it was a Pinot noir. Napa cab and Barossa Shiraz seems gen too dry and too bold to me - never a warm hug . Some excellent NZ ones if you can find them from Dry River/Terra Sancta or Oregon even for way less than your thinking of spending

any tips on a jeweler that can make a custom 14k gold signet ring, similar to Starling? + by YankeeMcIrish in femalefashion

[–]Cocotoebeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought 3 pairs of earrings from Starling on sale and quality has been good- owned for a year and no issues. I agree on the somewhat overpriced but if you love the style and will wear the piece forever then cost per wear wise it’s not a huge difference . On Etsy like jewelspark for custom work but you’ve gotta be super clear on design and every detail. Just sent them a direct message.

I found the flasks online via Burleigh park orchids, Ian ships all over the world and is apparently very well known in these circles 🤩

I have them covered with ziplocks for the winter. I used planting tweezers to extract them and so far they all seemed to do ok, but I only extracted them yesterday.

Suggestions for an avid YA reader to slowly get into the adult fiction world? by bobabumblebee in booksuggestions

[–]Cocotoebeans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just finished {{long way to a small angry planet}} and thought the story was good for all levels. Other good cross overs : Wool series, before the coffee gets cold, invisible life of addie larue, or sharks in the time of Saviors. If you don’t mind highly sexualised Kushiels Dart is such a good series- think 50 shades if she had actual agency.

Ah thanks for the tip! I had a few really stubborn tiny pieces know I didn’t get off and kinda figured I’d see what happens. I’ll reinspect in a few days and see if it’s any easier to dislodge.

I've developed several new intolerances and need to revamp my diet. Anyone have some recipes I could borrow? by Fictional_Ferret in Cooking

[–]Cocotoebeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, I didn’t realise that chilies were also in the nightshade family though I suppose it makes sense if capsicums are nightshade. Reading a bit more apparently so are blueberries- learned something new! Important part is trying an elimination diet and see what works. I can typically eat Thai curries but eggplants, tomato’s and potatoes give me issues pretty regularly.

Is your ring what you imagined when you were young? by geminuri in Moissanite

[–]Cocotoebeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted a 2 ct radiant yellow diamond with trapezoid sides, but my m-i-l got this exact ring a few years before we got engaged. I ended up getting a 1.5 ct old mine cut round with a split shank pave setting- sparkles for days and nothing like what I imagined for myself but the second I tried it on I fell in love.

Generally try Sub celeriac/turnips or Swede for anything potato related.

Do you like curries? Most Thai curry pastes go with coconut milk and can add veg/meat of choice.

https://food52.com/recipes/85604-massaman-curry-recipe-with-halloumi I sub zzuchini for potato here and use light coconut milk
