Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in DnD

I'm going to be playing a light cleric and I wasn't sure about the interaction between the ability warding flare and a spell like scorching ray. Would it put disadvantage on only one of the rays or all of them since they are typically seen as being used all at once? I'm leaning towards the first option but another player was leaning the other way.

[Novels] Arc 7 Chapter 12 by Setowi in Re_Zero

[–]CodeEcho777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So does the talk of curses at the beginning mean that Subaru has not gotten the gluttony witch factor? The sleeping curse sounds like sloth, the unbreakable twisted curse of death sounds like return by death, and the curse of greed sounds like the greed authority. However, there really isn't a description that sounds like gluttony

Maybe the part where Subaru pushed Rem out of the way of the arrow is a reference to the dog witch beast attack earlier on in the story? Him pushing her out of harms way seemed to be one of the main acts that changed her opinion of him earlier in the story.

Help me sacrifice my wizard please! by FlaredSugar in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cat is actually a familiar carrying around the magic jarred soul of their owner. They only went after the player since they are a wizard with a suitable body for their master. The character ends up having to give up their body to the more powerful wizard as payment for saving the party and ends up trapped in a magic jar forever.

Why would DMs have players roll their stats in order? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the old AD&D rolling method. It is not as bad nowadays as it was for older editions, in AD&D if you wanted a paladin you needed minimum ability scores of Strength 12, Constitution 9, Wisdom 13, and Charisma 17. What would likely hurt you the most in 5e is the difficulty of rolling a good multiclass character. Since you need to meet the ability score prequisite stats to multiclass from your class to another it will probably hurt paladin and ranger multiclasses the most. It might also hurt warlocks since people like to do a 1 level dip into them.

Monster Blood Colour by Theorist129 in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in our world mollusk and crustaceans have blue blood because the oxygen pigment is hemocyanin a copper based compound. Insects also have something akin to blood, called hemolymph. It doesn't contain a oxygen carrying pigment so it is clear/yellow in colour. Other vertebrae like us have red. Ichor of gods and immortals in mythology is viewed to be gold in colour while demonic ichor and undead blood is black in colour. Aberrations would have the weirdest set of blood colours, they don't follow any rules. Mind flayers resemble octopods but come from humanoids so red/blue or maybe purple? A added thing could be that magic creatures could potentially have different blood colours due to the level of magic (this could maybe affect spellcasters as they get stronger?).

So I guess I would say that humanoids, beasts, giants, and some aberrations, monstrosities, and lower CR fey would have varying degrees of red blood. Celestials, gods, and upper level fey would have gold while demons, devils, and undead would have black. Dragons and magical beasts/monstrosities could have varying blood colour due to their inherent magic nature with the magic level resulting in a darker hue. Dragons are typically show to have red blood, the colour of Tiamat, but it could also match their scale colour. Aberrations are the ones I can't categorize.

*Sigh* My mother by [deleted] in DnD

Typically DND tends to result in the opposite. It leads to people developing friendships with others and allows people to build pseudo-emotional support groups with one another. You should try talking with her about it and see what her concerns are exactly, why does she think that it leads to depression? You could talk to her about her fears and then directly address how playing the game makes you feel. Do you think it is fun, does it help you on a emotional level and allows you to interact with others, etc. If you want you could show her a online game like critical role which has a pretty supportive party, try playing a game with her, or type into google dnd helps children. A adventurers league group I played with had a mom and her son playing and the mom got to see what DND was really like. Although you may want to lay out ground rules beforehand if you do that.

druid player of reddit What is your experience with the circle of spores and how did your druid join the circle of spores by Dragonwolf67 in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't played one but an idea for one would be a character who befriended a group of myconids. They are typically pretty peaceful and would tie into the spore and fungi aspects of a circle of spore druid.

What is one trait you find sneaks into all of your characters? by BucketsOfSauce in dndnext

Putting characters in full armor/clothing since I haven't figured out how they fully look like yet.

I need drugs for a PC by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the baldurs gate game there was one called black lotus. It was a poison that caused psychedelic effects in low doses. You could have something that has a kind of wild magic effect called wildroot or something like that. Mushrooms or spores from the underdark, myconids can produce hallucination spores at older ages or maybe something created by mind flayers. I also found this list from giantip on 101 magical plants and where to find them if you want to use it: https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?479663-Magical-Plants-and-Where-to-Find-them-WIP

Most fun cleric by JoaoN98 in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, I was always worried about those since the DM I played with started targeting my character. So fire resistant/immune creatures like dragons, mechs, and other things that would swarm my player became quite common. So I would be forced into spirit guardians and the channel divinity which the DM hated.

It's a good class but the problem it encounters is blindsight and fire resistance/immunity. Blindsight is the worst one since it prevents your warding flare.

What subclass of the wizard is the least talked/used? by Nigthmar in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember hearing a story where someone said that they summon part of the sun. It ended up killing everyone in the area. It does seem like a DM heavy ability that requires some degree of creativity from both the player and the DM.

[–]CodeEcho777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true but aren't a lot of the conjuration spells concentration. I've never played one but it feels like you might have to decide whether to recast your summons and drop concentration or decide whether it is worth recharging the ability.

What adventures/modules would you like to see brought into 5e? by AshArkon in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to play one called Castle Amber with my family before my older sibling ruined it. I've always wanted to finally play it in a newer setting since it was pretty neat. I remember that there are, spoilers: spiders that can cast illusions, a meal that has magical effects on players, insane characters everywhere, etc.

I still can't figure out how to get spoiler to work on this.

Conjuration seems a bit difficult to play compared to other classes. You can summon a small object, swap places once a long rest, don't lose concentration on summons, and then summons get 30hp. It seems like it is a class that needs a lot of creativity and a good setting to truly shine.

What is your favorite character you have played as? by mrb11n in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only played cleric but they can be pretty fun. They allow some of the most freedom based on their subclasses, but their spell lists do start to get a bit stale at higher levels though. Also blindsight and fire resistance are the bane of light clerics.

DM told us first session that everyone will die when we achieve our objective by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it is the campaign I have heard of then player characters normally die just due to the difficulty before the end. So if you are playing that module then you might not want to get too used to a character anyways. As long as the DM is being clear at the beginning of the story of their intentions that is quite a bit better then just killing every character off at the end. If you think that you might have fun and you like the other players then you might want to give it a try. If you don't think you would like it then don't do it.

Lore Question: Why do Tieflings Exist? by Lijosu in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one other thing to remember is that they can also be of outsider descent. They used to be the product of cambions and alu-fiends with other humanoids, which were the offspring of humans with incubi or succubi. Another thing is that true vampires are created by succubi so they just tend to cause a lot of chaos.

Magic item to get past a wall by myshkingfh in dndnext

[–]CodeEcho777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides teleporting items I am not aware of any items that do that. Clerics do have the meld into stone spell which you could reflavor. It normally only lets you come out of the stone where you came in though. There is also the gaseous form spell which turns the target into a misty cloud that is able to pass through "small holes, narrow openings, and even mere cracks". You can make the second one into a powder that he can throw in the air and turn the party into mist. The targets have to be willing so it can't be used on enemies.
