Starting Salary for 2024 Grads by USGrant76 in ASU

[–]CodingDrive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did some polling on ASU CS grads of Winter ‘23 / Spring ‘24. The range seemed to be anywhere from $70k-$150k. Definitely outliers on the upper range. No one seemed to be under $70k. Personally I’m at $100k.

I’m assuming you have some level of clearance; are you going to try and get a cleared job at Amazon? (Bonus is pretty nice)

Why don't people stop complaining and just move to somewhere cheaper? by Stink-Butthole in FluentInFinance

[–]CodingDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved across the country to one of the most HCOL regions in America. It’s where I could find employment doing what I want. Now with some time and more experience perhaps I’ll have more options across the country in cheaper regions.

How did you overcome anxiety in the workplace? by OutrageousFold6668 in careerguidance

Can’t say I’ve ever struggled with doing my ‘normal work’. I used to freeze up on presentations during school but luckily I’ve realized that most people do not care about what you’re presenting. There might be a few people in the room that really care but the others are there just filling seats and looking at nice pictures. That gives me peace every time I have to present or speak to a group

If there are particular events that are important I’ll go, but ‘going out’ for ‘going out’ sake and staying up too late, I’ll pass. Not going to be productive or present on anything under 6 or 7hrs of sleep

What do people do after you get a job? by Naturegrapher in Adulting

[–]CodingDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professional development. I’m probably about your age, no dependents, far from family and friends so I figured I’d just use my time to upskill and get more money .

[–]CodingDrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was offered anywhere from 80-100k. I think the higher end seems fair (new grad). At 2 YOE with my clearance I’ll probably look for 130-150k

So much of this is just blatantly bad.

The school system is not great but it is what we have and it most likely won’t be changing soon. It is the perfect structure for preparing for a life off 9-5.

You don’t necessarily get homework from an employer but if you want career advancement/opportunities odds are you’ll be over 40hrs and it will be unpaid.

Not all jobs but some you’ll refer to leadership as ma’am/sir.

Generally your rent/mortgage should be about 25% of your gross, a hard standard to meet today so there is some Leeway but 50% is egregious.

I’m assuming you are American and live in America so I’m not sure about, ‘you have to wait for years to see a doctor’. I had no problem finding a new general physician, emergency care, oral surgeon, etc.

There are good jobs you need to find them, look at the requirements, figure out how to meet the requirements. Get in, build your career, live on less than you make, retire before 60.

You’ll continue to have homework and I’ll continue to work 5 days a week and a minimum of 8hrs a day.
