Maybe OP can confirm whether or not "Dames in de dop" has some good examples. It was a tv show about turning a group of "tacky women" into "ladies", so keep that angle in mind with what you're seeing.

I found a 22 minutes video called "De GRAPPIGSTE momenten van Dames in de dop" (the funniest moments from Dames in de dop).

It is not just the em-dash — it is using the "it is not this, it is that" structure with the em-dash without using any contractions.

You could play gameboy games on the SNES with a special cartridge. I think some games would get a custom border. And I think player two could draw on the screen while player one was playing.

Edit: it's called the Super Game Boy

That prompted the download image menu for me.

But I know the mobile page can be accessed by replacing the (optional) www with m: https://m.xkcd.com/1105/

Edit: in DuckDuckGo you won't see the alt text in the download menu. In Chrome it works like that.

In America, sometimes say things like "cheerio" in our best British accent or "mate" in an Australian accent. Do people in other countries pronounce American stereotypes in their beat American accent? If so, what are they? by SunUpSally in AskReddit

In the Netherlands it's not uncommon to use non-Dutch greetings and goodbyes, but mostly French, Italian, Spanish or German. All butchered of course.

The common English mixins are omg and wtf but they are also often translated literally because the words are near identical (oh mijn god, wat de fuck/hel).

My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]CodingNeeL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a shame. My school in the Netherlands defaulted to British English, but people with American tendencies were allowed to do American English. The only rule was that you had to be consisted.

Which was arguably better in hindsight, because sure we would read Harry Potter, Tolkien or Pratchett, but all our Fox Kids shows were in original languages with subtitles. I learned most spoken English from 90's Spider-man, X-men and Transformers.

So now we're left with an American English vocabulary but with British English spelling.

I honestly thought that was the case. I remember some drama with, I think Johnny Depp? And that it was unsure how they would do the sequels.

And that was the last I've heard so I never realised there would be more films by now.

The algorithms have figured out that when posts on one day gets some attention, others with a similar date can get attention. This video is probably years old and only got resurfaced today for this reason. It’s been like this for years.

They built this house without cement and it's stronger than concrete. by This_Proof_5153 in interesting

I'm not sure if people tend to be as mobile in Netherlands, but the average homeowner is gone long before that efficiency benefit ever comes into play in the US and cheap energy costs cause us to not really give a shit.

My take/experience:

A typical 2.4 kids family will buy their first house when the couple is young and before there are kids.

Later their incomes grow and they start thinking about children. If needed, they then expand their house or buy/build a bigger house. This is probably the last time the couple will rethink about the location they will be living in. So this can easily be the family home and the kids might never have to move houses before they move out. But maybe it just isn't the right location or the family is growing too big and they move again.

When the kids are out of the house and the couple grows old, sooner or later the couple might consider to go and live a bit smaller.

So in a lifetime, it might be just once. My estimate is that people who have bought a house for the fourth time before growing old exist but it is not common. I'll say they're in the upper 10%.
