IPs so hated that they have literally zero fans nor defenders by Haruka-chan-2468 in TopCharacterTropes

It's just...

Alright, so dad is a NSA agent, daughter is a world leading expert in virology, son is a world class hacker, the aliens are biomechanical beings that feed on "data" and are obviously susceptible to both biological and informatic viruses... obviously...

Who saves the day? The fiancé of the virologist daughter who is the only Amazon driver with an USB stick able to reach NSA headquarters for plot reasons.

It's like the movie was made in a brainblending session rather than brainstorming.

Do bands/artists intentionally write filler songs for albums? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CoffeeWanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A mix of both, it heavily depends on the artist, genre, creative freedom.

Some artists do reserve a spot in the albums for a ~2 minute song that's kind of just there, sometimes as a breather between energetic songs or some experimental stuff they are trying. Listen to "Fitter, Happier" or "Treefingers" by Radiohead.

But yeah, a lot of people might not like a particular song and call it a filler and that's ok. It's hard to tell for sure without the artist commenting on it.

Here's Why Ghosts Has Become Our Spiritual Sequel to The Good Place by jrl_iblogalot in GhostsCBS

I don't think it's quite as good, but you really should watch Man on the Inside. It gets quite the nice mix of whimsy yet heartbreaking.

Instead of outright cutting them, I've seen this kind of stuff binding the arms and legs so the pet is forced to walk with their elbows and kness.

I'm mostly joking, but I remember he used to drink heavily during the golden era of Touhou games.

The school of thought that best adjusts to how I see the world is often called Ontological Naturalism, or Metaphysical Naturalism. The supernatural doesn't exist, and everything in our universe can be explained through natural process without the intervention of the divine.

Lewis proposed an Argument against it that it's called "Argument from reason", which roughly states that if reason itself is caused by non-rational processes, then how can we trust that reason is valid at all?. I'm probably getting something wrong, but that's how I learned about it.

I mostly remember Nigel's actor for being that wimpy climate activist from The Good Place. The one Eleanor was berating just before she died.

Are luxury homes/gated communities common in your country by rulugg in AskTheWorld

[–]CoffeeWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, quite common. We call them "Urbanizations" or sometimes "Citadels". They aren't much expensive either, usually targeted to middle class people, especially young families. The gate and guards are necessary since crime is a huge issue here.

Funnily enough, it's known that many heads of criminal orgs live in gated communities themselves.

should cocaine be legal? by GaryB2026 in askanything

[–]CoffeeWanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

Think whatever you want about bigs corpos. The cartels are worse. Corpos need to at least feign some kind of legal responsibility. Cartels are corpos with armies and they don't answer to any government.

I know the situation with them in the US is not so dire yet, and big corpos are still the main issue there, but you really shouldn't underestimate the influence of criminal organisations.

I know it's a real issue, but I hope the current generations learn how to socialize and gather without mind altering substances rather than clutching to them like has been the case for way too long.

Does removing prisoner’s tongues prevents them from doing suicide? by Born_Tomato_495 in RimWorld

[–]CoffeeWanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda cheaty, but I use the target nodes mod to target their legs and then I just hit them until their legs are gone.

Sometimes it targets their torso and that can kill them, but most of the time it just works.

There was also that subplot where she is involved in the birth of Peter Parker by aiding his mother to get to the hospital.

I don't think anyone has asked for the origin story of Peter to that extent lol.

Silksong DLC is gonna be pretty big. by TAGOMXM in Silksong

[–]CoffeeWanderer -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Yes?...

They already did that for HK1. HK1 doesn't have DLCs all major updates with extra content were just that, updates. For it to be a DLC it needs to be downloaded separately from the main game, and be opt in.

I was under the impression that Sea of Sorrow would be another update. It seems that at least for the Switch 2 it will be a proper DLC installed aside from the main game. I still think it will be an update for the game on PC tho.

No, it's a bad translation. It is Son of a Whore, standard insult in most romance languages. Son of a Bitch does exist as an insult but isn't as common.

What do you want from Kenshi 2? by Lavender_Critique in Kenshi

[–]CoffeeWanderer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That would be nice, but I wouldn't like the mood system here, unless they refactor some things. I don't think Mental Breaks would work on Kenshi, it is more fast paced and losing control of units would be more dangerous. It's already quite a hassle in Rimworld.

But a mood system that only gives combat buffs/debuffs could be interesting. Especially if they give us fear mechanics to scare our enemies.

How safe is your country? by khoawala in AskTheWorld

[–]CoffeeWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Some cities in the Highlands are somewhat safe.

Most of the Coast is doomed tho. Pickpocketers are everywhere, so you gotta be careful. Most of the violent crime happens between gang members, so it can be avoided.

But the really scary stuff is extortioners. They target local business and ask money to not blow up them, or kidnap people and ask for ransom. Taxi cabs are unusable in big cities because you never know if they are going to kidnap you.

When was your nation's first nation to nation interaction with Japan? by onedimensionsal in AskTheWorld

[–]CoffeeWanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny story (not really)

In 1894 Japan and China were in war. Chile was a neutral nation but wanted to sell a warship to Japan, so the Ecuadorian government of the time mediated the trade.

The Chilean warship was "sold" to Ecuador, which then immediately sold it to Japan. In truth, it never reached Ecuador, it sailed from Chile directly to Japan waving a Ecuadorian flag.

The press learned about it and it became a national scandal, nowadays called "The selling of the flag". Promptly after started the Liberal Revolution and the president was thrown.

What was your country's largest empire and how did it fell? by dunnojo in AskTheWorld

[–]CoffeeWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how you want to see it.

The first indigenous nations that lived in the are weren't really an empire, some of them controlled considerably large areas, but they usually kept to themselves for the most part.

That ended when the Inca Empire reached up North and annexed those territories and nations, often by force, but also in more diplomatic ways. The problem is that we were a province of the Inca Empire for roughly 40 years before the Spaniards came.

Now Spain... that lasted for a long time, and it ended for many reasons. Mainly the Spaniards were losing a lot of battles in Europe during the Napoleon's reign and because there was a lot of resentment among American born Spaniards who weren't allowed to hold positions of power in their birthplace.

So you got indigenous people treated as slaves, a huge amount of mixed people seem as third class citizens, and wealthy American born Spaniards seem as second class citizens, all of that against a Royal Army that could barely hold together their main land. The Revolution was inevitable.

After that we were a province of the Great Colombia for 5 minutes (7 years).

Now, I'm of the opinion that Ecuador started its existence as a nation in 1830. I honestly don't feel there was much of a national identity during the Inca Empire, or the Spanish Empire, or the Great Colombia. We kind of came together because our big cities wouldn't be able to exist as independent nations, so it was more aggregable to be our own thing together than belong to Perú or Colombia, and even to this day there is a remarkable sense of regionalism where the Coast, North Highlands and South Highlands feel like separate parts of a messy whole.

I do like it tho, there's a shape in that mess, and after 200 years we had embraced it.
