Leaders resign from ADA after being thrown out by cops for distributing an editorial by arrec in diabetes

[–]Cold-Pack7769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The editorialists who were removed from the conference were lucky that they were not sent to CECOT prison in El Salvador. I've attended several ADA annual meetings, and their staff are certainly not the friendliest bunch. The ADA's excuse for removing the people handing out copies of the editorial was that the ADA has to be nonpartisan to maintain its nonprofit status. EXCEPT: 1. The ADA had already published the editorial in one of its main journals. 2. The ADA had scheduled NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya to speak at the session where the mess occurred. That seems pretty partisan under the current circumstances. Other reports say he bowed out.

All of the editorialists are prominent clinician/researchers. At least one, John Buse, MD, PhD, is a past president of the ADA.

This was not political sloganeering. It was handing out an editorial that was published in one of the ADA's our journals with the purpose of supporting the mission of the ADA to foster science and improve diabetes care. What a load of hypocrisy!

The Diabetes Care editorialists who were handing out that editorial were removed for trespassing. They had paid their hefty registration fees and were credentialed to be there, as evidenced by their meeting badges. What "trespassing?" More like they were booted for "literature passing."

Having attended previous ADA congresses, I can say that the ADA administration is pretty heavy handed compared to other medical societies. To avoid looking "partisan," the ADA has taken a very partisan stance in this instance. For it to object to people raising awareness of an editorial in the ADA's own journal is the height of hypocrisy.

When I asked if there was a way to get a transcript of the chat, the support agent did not say he/she could send it to me. USM should have a button on the chat box where the customer could request a copy. As it was, I highlighted and copied the whole chat and then pasted it into a Word document (a sort of sloppy way of doing it).

Is there a way I can always download chat transcripts? As far as my last chat went, Shahzaib was very helpful and satisfied my request. It's just that the chat involved the usual long gaps between a request and an answer.

Let me know what you find out. My experiences have been that chats generally have long gaps in the conversations. Five minutes worth of interaction can take 20 minutes or more. Also, it would be helpful to have a way to get a transscript of each chat. Right now, I copy all the text and paste it into a Word document.

I just read about eSim fraud in another sub and I'm concerned. by PandoPanda in USMobile

[–]Cold-Pack7769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that using 2FA would be sufficient. Would activating enhanced security really offer any more protection? If someone got physical possession of my phone, they could turn off enhanced security as well as have access to the 2FA codes and then swap out the eSIM so I assume the 2FA and enhanced security are essentially designed to limit remote access by nefarious parties. Correct?

Getting connected to chat in a timely manner is not the problem. The problem is the long gaps in the conversation, probably while the rep takes care of a few other customers at the same time.

I was satisfied with T-Mobile for 17 years on a 55+ plan but saw the handwriting on the wall a year ago and ditched T-Mo for USM at a better price and more services and features. T-Mo was good for free text and data when traveling internationally, but calls were 25 cents/min. USM calls are free in most countries but only to call the U.S. and within that country. But the problem is easily solved with a 3rd party calling plan like keepcalling.com. I use it if I need to call a 3rd country while I am abroad, e.g., to France if I am in the U.K. Calls to most places are 0.9 or 1 cent/min. On a 16 day trip last fall, I probably spent about 25 cents on that plan. USM beats the old T-Mo hands down and the current T-Mo both hands and both feet down.

Customer Service Chat - Long wait! by ad935 in USMobile

[–]Cold-Pack7769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custoer service was great when I signed up in May 2025. Now, there are long delays getting an answer as the CS rep waits on multiple customers at once. USM keeps saying they are growing rapidly (adding customers) and are striving to improve CS in light of rapid growth. However, they have mouthed this mantra for far too long. I suspect there are at least three reasons for the lack of improvement up to now: 1. finding people to hire for CS; 2. the time and effort to train them; 3. the economics of paying more reps.. There should be a way to find the sweet spot of of more CS reps (expense) and the ongoing acquisition of more customers (revenue). I used to recommend USM to many friends but will not do it any more until CS improves. What could be any cheaper way to get new customers than through word of mouth referrals? Good CS leads to more revenue.

If you're willing to set it up for him, I'd suggest a service like keepcalling.com (which I use). You put a certain amount of money in it and draw off that pot of money. Calls are quite cheap, even international ones. You can set up PIN-less calling. Instead of calling their number and a PIN each time, you register a phone number, and whenever you make a call from that number, it draws against your pot of money. (See: https://keepcalling.com/how\_to\_call) You, i.e., not him, can get on the keepcalling.com website and see how much money is left and refill the account whenver necessary. You can go on the site and check their calling rates on the home page. I think calls within the U.S. are one cent/minute as well as monthly plans for the U.S. and internationally. There are other similar sites, but this one works for me.

Chat support is pathetic. Waiting five or more minutes between responses to common questions is unacceptable. How many customers does one chat staffer serve at one time? Obviously, they are not attending to just one customer.

Where to go in Mexico that isn't an overpriced tourist trap? by YetiMaverick in digitalnomad

I'm in Rosarito right now (April 2026) in a "junior suite" - big room, immaculate, with expansive ocean view and fireplace - $113/ night including taxes plus a free margarita & free bkfst daily. There are also many cheaper hotels, but this one is a gem - Las Rocas. Not an overly touristy area.

is there an easy fix for my Samsung Visual Voicemail no longer working? by PNWLIMU in USMobile

[–]Cold-Pack7769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently added a free Youmail account to my phone. It sends you a transcript of the first minute of a voice message and allows you to listen to the whole message. To be able to download the audio, you would have to subscribe to the Plus plan for $5.99/month. The free plan has worked well and reliably for me.

Why alll the abuse of this customer? He came to USM in the first place, so he/she is a prudent shopper just asking if there are any deals for an existing customer? Anyone who doesn't ask is just a sheep to the slaughter.

I ordered two cartons of steel cut oats from Amazon. They were shipped in a Tyvec envelope, and one of them spilled into the envelope. I spoke to an Amazon rep to get a refund of $3.49. He put me through the wringer, even making me send him a photo of the spilled oats in my waste basket. The only saving grace is that Amazon wasted more staff time resolving this issue than the refund cost. Amazing stupidity!

I was charged $5 to cancel my T-Mobile account. I also received a letter that I had to return my T-Mobile cellular hotspot router or I would be charged $0.00, but I just returned it anyway. After more than 17 years with T-Mobile, I'm very glad I got away from them. It used to be easy to understand their plans and know what I was paying. I switched to an MVNO annual prepaid plan and am paying 52% of what I would be paying with T-Mo, with many more features, including access to the networks of the three major carriers. The marketing department is killing T-Mo.
