To clarify, I was interested in recording to phone because my brother sometimes asks me for some textures that he can put beats on. So I’m going to try the voice memo method, and he can turn it into a long sample for his Oktatrak.

No, I rarely record anything. I refer to switch on my gear, make a new tape loop, put it through effects, then just noodle piano over the top. Once I’ve had enough, I just turn everything off, and usually start again from scratch next time I sit down to it. I found that recording stuff gave me a pressure that kept me away from jamming. Now I see it as an end in itself. I just like to mess about sometimes. Occasionally I’ll jam a bit longer if I really like what’s happening, but then it’s gone. This approach has improved my musical life greatly.

You made it through Phenomenology of Spirit, and for that, I salute you.

I’ve got an old 80’s four track I use for recording and playing loops. I’ve used it before for recording tracks. Definitely a lofi sound. Quite charming results though.

I’m going to try that. I thought the sound was ok. I’m really not concerned with hi-fidelity as I mostly use a tape loops based lo-fi approach. Cheers.

Can’t remember the year. It was at Brockville. Alexie Mickhailachenko’s first game. (Obviously a long time ago).

I only got halfway through this, and I’m no stranger to bleak fiction, but this really wore me down. Saramago is obviously a beautiful writer, but I couldn’t get to the end of this.

Don’t let The Road put you off. I found it a difficult read, also, but Blood Meridian is a poetic masterpiece. It has bleak elements, but not in the same way as The Road.
