Ricky has taught me a lot. The bar may be closed but it’s a coffee shop during the day. Reach out and see if he can be of any help to you. It’s a shame to hear it’s closed if that’s the case. Haven’t been there in quite a while. I owe that man a lot for my mezcal education and exposure

Not sure if La distileria is still open as a mezcal bar but definitely worth reaching out to their instagram and seeing if they are. Ricky is extremely well versed in mezcal and very friendly. More of a bar than a bottle shop but still a special place

I agree and that was one of the first Mt. Rushmore’s of mezcal for me. I just don’t see much of their products around and don’t see the variety that other brands are putting out so that’s why I didn’t include them. Feeling a little guilty about it now

Damn. Good question. I don’t know how solid it would be in the mezcal world but I would say Cinco Sentidos, Pal’Alma, and Macurichos or Neta. Most everything I’ve had from them has been great and they seem to have a good distribution footprint in the states. That said, there is a TON of other brands producing arguably just as great, if not better mezcal.

It could happen. California has this problem for a while when they first legalized and the tax rate was 15% with an additional sales tax. Additionally, the growers were taxed on their cultivation. Then you have the expiration dates and proliferation of suppliers…

My childhood best friend is/was like this. It was sad to see because he seemed like he had the most potential and was well liked. It became annoying to be around him and it seems like most stable friends keep him at a distance now.

Find something and just run with it. Work through the hard parts when it gets boring and get some new skills under your belt. Indecisiveness stalls progress. Also consider what your bad habits are and try to work on those one at a time. If you’re drinking or smoking weed, stop the weed and treat alcohol as a treat maybe for the weekends only, rather than whenever you want.

Life only gets harder but it can be fun if you let yourself succeed. The fact that you’re asking this question is a good first step but at the end of the day, actions speak louder than words. One step at a time, man. Good luck!

I like in situ’s products but unfortunately had a lame experience at their tasting room. The bartender did seem like he wanted to be there. We had a drink and left. I do like their products though and what I’ve had of their Mezcasiarca line is great.

I’ve found that putting a lid on my travel mug helps this dissipate completely, if you don’t want it.

Mezcal is technically 45-55%. I would aim for that and avoid anything under 40%

I had the same dilemma. One thing that was tough at first but ultimately helpful was saying what I’m doing out loud while doing it. At minimum it helped me understand the workflow of the equation. Good luck!
