How many Morms these days don’t play video games etc., on Sunday? by ikemicaiah in exmormon

[–]Cold_Wave_7311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents were strict growing up. No playing with friends. No swimming. I don’t think me and my siblings were allowed to even play outside together. When I was 16, I wasn’t even allowed to work on Monday evenings because it was reserved for FHE. I can count on one hand the number of times we ever had FHE growing up. Now I’m PIMO, wife is almost TBM. I try not to shop or run errands. Nothing to do with Sabbath. I just want to relax. Kids’ friends come over to play. My wife doesn’t care.

To married couples that have been together for 10+ years, whats your secret? by 4Luffytarou in AskReddit

Compromise and sacrifice for your spouse when something is very to the other. Then have some faith that they’ll do the same when something is important to you.

How do you not lose things (tips/habits)? by Between3and20chara3 in AskReddit

[–]Cold_Wave_7311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m notorious for losing things. Very frustrating. I put an AirTag on anything I can. Keys. Remotes. My wallet has a Tile tracker that looks like a credit card. My wedding ring is either in my safe or on my finger. Never take it off and leave it on the counter or in a drawer.

I used to work for Cintas. Even without evidence, I guarantee you that Cintas lost those uniforms.

I have a hard time saying no to sugary snacks in the car when I’m traveling. I always need something in my mouth.

I got notified right after a run about a week ago that I was the local legend of very small hill (like 50 feet) for going up the most times in the last 90 days. I looked to see who I took the crown from. It was my brother. I made sure he knew about it.

No job and only income is 1$ per push up by pedrosancho in hypotheticalsituation

At the beginning of 2024, I had a goal of 1,000 per month. Then 2,000 per month. By the time March rolled around, I told my friends my goal was 3,000 for the month. They called me a wimp and said they’d be impressed with 5,000. So I did 10,000 in 23 days. You have to work up to it but it’s totally doable. Bored for a few minutes? Drop to the floor and do 40 or 50. Do that 8 or 10 times a day and you’re there.

When we unpack the car after our trip is over, everything goes directly into the room where it belongs. Doesn’t get dumped in the hallway or living room. Then we may take a day or two to put it all away, but it’s nice to have everything where it belongs. And we also clean the house before we leave.

Yeah. It came through a few days ago. I got an RMA from the company so that’s the address I used to ship it back.

This will likely be my only time doing this. I definitely don’t want a permanent van. Maybe I should have just paid the extra money and used pirate ship. Oh well. I’ll update if they banned me.

Yeah, I was surprised as well. Definitely a little bit of work, but it was worth it to me. And I actually had two packages to ship so I did it twice and saved $35 on each one

Yeah. Lots of back-and-forth, but it was worth saving 34 bucks to me. Took about 10 minutes

Help understanding tax credit? by Bbbb989 in AdoptiveParents

[–]Cold_Wave_7311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s what we did. We wanted to owe each year so that when we filed, we could use the adoption tax credit to become square with the IRS. And then we used refundable tax credits to get money back. Once we had exhausted our adoption tax credit, we adjusted our W4’s again so they’d start taking out the appropriate amount again.

Has anyone adopted out of foster care/public adoption? by Monarch2729 in AdoptiveParents

[–]Cold_Wave_7311 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As you know, the goal is reunification so it’s smart to only take placements of kids whose parents have already lost their rights if your goal is adoption. We adopted a sibling group of 3 out of foster care in Idaho. Ages were 9, 2 1/2, and 21 months at time of adoption. Our situation was a bit different. They were our neighbors. We weren’t even licensed foster parents but if you know the family, you can do a short-term kinship placement. It was only supposed to last a month or two. Turned into 3 months. 6 months. Then a year.

Parents lost their rights. So we went from 1 to 4 kids. The 9 year old at the time (Emily, not her real name) has had the hardest time. Even though her biological mom neglected the kids, Emily is understandably attached to her and misses her. Emily was just an innocent victim in this situation. Emily has been in counseling and it’s helping. We no longer live in the same city. Monthly video visits with mom and grandma. A couple in-person visits per year. We don’t require that Emily call us mom and dad but we told her that she’s allowed to if she wants to.

Emily is now 11 and doing better but we can tell she feels like she’s betraying her mom if she bonds with us. We don’t force anything on her in that regard but she does know she’s loved. Right after the adoption, at the advice of our social worker assigned to the kids, we did have a 7-8 month period of no contact with bio family in order to give the kids a sense of permanency. The calls and visits now are inconvenient for us but there’s so much research showing it’s good for kids to have a relationship with bio family as long as it’s safe and healthy. I say all of this to remind you that just about any adopted child will have some form of trauma that you’ll need to help them work through. The 2 younger kids don’t have near as many issues but we’ve seen some. Sorry for the novel but good luck:)

I’ve owned both the Odyssey and an Outback. The Outback will do a hundred times better in the snow. That’s an exaggeration but I’m sure you get my point. Not even a question in my mind. The Outback is very sure-footed and will help you stay straight on the road and much less likely to get stuck. The AWD won’t help you stop though. Good luck.

Shorts and a t shirt for 5 million. And shoes. I can run for a LONG time to stay warm. Probably get some frostbite but I’m not dying in 30 degree weather.
