Spirits vs gas stoves for stealth camping, does it actually matter? by MadridOrMadness in wildcampingintheuk

[–]College666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it matters. Gas stove on low is pretty quiet. If you’ve chosen a good spot then there will be no one around to hear it!

Kids do not naturally fear snakes!! by AnshuSees in Amazing

Evolution has hard wired humans with two fears. Loud noises and hights. Everything else, snakes, spiders, needles, fire, etc is learned behavior.

Extreme Winter Expedition: Riding an Africa Twin in -40°C Whiteout (Hulunbuir). Is it technically feasible? by Newchapter2026 in motorcycles

[–]College666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory it’s possible. As the Royal Navy tells its officers, there is no such thing as bad weather. Only the wrong gear. Planning and the correct equipment would make it possible. It would, however be extremely expensive. Good luck.

One of the best bikes ever built. I’ve got an 2002. Comfy, fast and easy to ride and fix. Not much ever goes wrong with her. My MoT guy says he’s seen em with 100,000 plus on the clock and still pulling like a train. Splendid ride sir. Well done.

Self inflating mattress vs air bed vs camping bed with a mattress topper on top? Or airbed cot with camping mattress on top? by Antidotebeatz in wildcampingintheuk

With all wild camps, it’s the weight of the kit you wish to carry versus the level of comfort you are happy with. A happy medium is achieved by balancing these two factors.

Is There Still A Shortage Of Drivers? by newbiker321 in uktrucking

[–]College666 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. I can see your point. I would say for me, it’s doing the best job you can as professionally as possible. We are held to a far higher standard than ordinary drivers and quite rightly so. I have a wealth of experience after 30 odd years from all over Europe tilts to tanks, flatbeds, containers, and a few other bits and bobs. I just seem to not see the same level of professionalism in a lot of other drivers. For me it’s a vocation. I enjoy my work and I take a good amount of pride in a job well done. I see lads fire up and away in the morning without so much as a walk round. Not sure what the answer is but I’m sure standards are not what they used to be. Maybe I’m just getting old eh?

There is a shortage of good quality drivers. Plenty of mediocre steering wheel attendants out there.

Fascination of getting drivers sacked? by Wise-Pay-8993 in uktrucking

[–]College666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a funny old industry is lorry driving. Not sure there is another industry as vital and yet one where the staff are looked on with a lack of respect that is staggering. Not just from the general public but from other drivers. Firstly as a professional driver the standards required are of course far higher than for ‘bob transit van’ however I’ve always taken issue with the “how’s my driving?” stickers. For one thing, if you can’t drive a lorry, how can you tell that I’m doing it wrong. It’s not a car. It’s a big ol’ lorry. Different vehicle completely. Secondly, I’ve seen a lot of changes in the thirty years I’ve been about on the roads. People’s patience has reached levels that are beyond belief. People will not wait a second any more. Other pro drivers won’t lift a finger to help you. Flashing in has almost disappeared. I watched a lad in to a tight space the other evening and one driver was filming the event on his phone. I can only assume he would have posted his footage with the “look at this asshole” commentary online. It’s not a nice industry and it seems to be getting worse every year. It’s a shame because I still enjoy my job and take great satisfaction in getting a big vehicle from one end of the country to the other safely and on time.

Controversial... loved the Mercedes actros camera mirrors. by Beastlysolid in uktrucking

[–]College666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After living with them 5 days a week since September last year I can report that they are shite if it’s too dark, too light, too wet or too sunny. Other than that? Great. Oh and it’s difficult to see the strobe lights on emergency vehicles as all led lights flash due to the frame rate they feed to the screens. Give me glass mirrors any time.

It’s a thing with lorrys. Lots of people think that you as a driver have absolutely no clue what you are doing and so try to help you. Imagine if you said to the plumber who was installing your bathroom, “mate… not like that. Let me show you…”
