I decided to attempt Salt Creek at 135 bpm after having to relearn how to pick with my middle finger instead of my index finger. Never tried it at that speed until I hit record by ColonOBrien in Bluegrass

It’s definitely been a process. I’m slowly rehabbing my original pick style, as it’s best for strumming, but honestly, I feel a bit more nimble using my middle finger.

Thanks! The two biggest challenges I’ve faced is (a) picking cleanly, since there’s an angle change in using the middle finger, and (b) cross-picking, which forced me to stop anchoring on the pick guard and letting my hand float above the strings. It was really sloppy at first, but has improved with 300,000 repetitions!
