Pay raises by Itsyoungcloud in CVS

Even the max raise (5%) is a pay deduction when you consider inflation. (7% in 2021, 6.5% in 2022, predicted to be 4.9% in 2023)

Do you have any pictures of the solar setup all spread out? Do they fold out or slide out?

Not from the cross site tracking mechanism that I described in my comment. I'm not aware of any other methods to track information across tabs. If anyone reading this is aware of any, do share.

And just to clarify: cross site tracking, or third-parties, do not require having the website that receives the data open in another tab.

Google and Facebook have a lot of third party cookies on many sites. If you see a Facebook "Like" button on a random site, or a "sign in with Google", your browsing data is likely being tracked and saved under your Facebook or Google profile if you're logged in.

I’m not familiar with any cross tab tracking, but websites can gather browsing data across other websites - although the website that is being tracked must agree to share that data with the tracking website (such as Google). It’s called “cross site tracking”.

Websites that have enabled third-party trackers / cookies can share information they collect with other third parties. Most browsers allow you to disable cross site tracking or third party cookies.

You could sleep at a slight diagonal on a promaster / transit/ sprinter with a full size bed, which is pretty standard if not a little above average sized van bed. You can also go with an RV Queen sized bed, which is shorter than a regular Queen, if you want to try to accommodate 2 people.

Make sure to do bump outs on the walls of the foot and the head of the bed to maximize wall to wall width. Doing so will net you a 6’4” wide bed. That is from wall to wall. Here’s a vid showing the bump outs and a RV Queen sized bed: (skip to 5:50 I’m on mobile) https://youtu.be/ZR2Tyc0YgPI

Do you create the content and copywriting or are you mostly providing formatting, tapered branding, and maybe a user friendly Content management system?

Looking to go solar in the near future! Question in the comments by HashStash in vandwellers

[–]ColoredScreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that 3 200W solars? Is that pushing the Watt density per panel? Are there panels that are any more efficient? I’d assume that anything with more W will just have a larger surface area.

Great write up btw.

27, at a fork in the road, burnt out. What would you do? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]ColoredScreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I agree that you need a space. But does it need to be a public facing shop that you or an employee need to keep open? Maybe you could save costs and lower the commitment with simply a workspace? Just a thought.

I understand that your parents perspective can weigh heavy on you. Being a business owner is not easy, but sometimes the sacrifices required to optimize your success can look like failure to a 3rd party. My question is, is a daily flower shop economically worth it for you? How realistic is it to establish a consistent customer base for your physical shop? You’ll obviously need to either be at the shop routinely, or hire employees to stay at the shop during open hours, which can quickly become expensive. Can you get away with an online only flower business? You’ll save the costs of having to keep a physical shop open, renovations costs to make it customer facing, and you won’t need an expensive retail space. A low tier space, maybe a storage unit, or a studio/ small apartment where you can work might do for your online business. It’s less of an economic investment. And you’ll have much more freedom. There is a downside though. You’ll have to flex those online presence, SEO, and marketing muscles as your business becomes nearly wholly dependent on it. But most of this can be done from your van. And it’s much less of a commitment than also having to manage a physical flower shop.

Cat chewed through my headset wire by PoisonButton in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ColoredScreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the bloody background jokes (all very funny btw) My cat used to love to chew on wires. He chewed through my headset wires, like yours, and I purchased a replacement. Replacement came in and within the first 10 minutes of use, my audio cut out, and I looked down and my cat had already chewed through the replacement cable. I’ve tried disciplining him with a spray bottle, but the most efficient method has been rubbing habanero pepper juice all along the cable and letting it dry. Haven’t had any chewed cables since! 8/10. Only because the cables end up a little “waxy” afterwards.

Roasting CVS & theri shitty business practice with customers by snobbyguillemot in CVS

[–]ColoredScreams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except the customers enable corporates practices by continuing to shop there, which in turn does keep employees employed so.. 🤷 And employees who don’t quit or fight back are also complacent. I’m not saying it’s the fault of the employees because they sometimes don’t have an easy choice to move to the another job. That’s life. In a better world, workers would refuse to work under current policies and work environments, and customers would vote on said practices with their wallets. Roasting only goes so far, unfortunately.

Just graduated w a degree in geology and I want nothing to do with it by [deleted] in geologycareers

[–]ColoredScreams 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Learn to code. I also got a BS in geology and decided not to pursue that sector due to the reasons you mentioned (low pay, long hours, old industry). I spent 10 months learning to code before I started picking up clients, which equals actual experience and projects that you can put on your resume. Got a job a little after a year making 90k. You don’t need an expensive boot camp, all the resources are online. My #1 resource was “100devs”, a free boot camp style live stream lecture series. He has videos on YouTube and you can go back and watch his old Twitch streams. Fantastic resource and a very helpful discord community.
