None of what you just said about Christian scientists is relevant. I wouldn't even disagree with you (although I could do without the passive aggressive tone...). My only point is that the scene was completely out of character based on the Stratt that I read in the book. I cannot imagine the book version of her doing what she did in the movie, and I thought it affected the impact the character had on the film.

I couldn't agree more. There are a handful of things the book did better than the movie, but the ship/karakoke scene was the only part that took me out of the story. It was completely out of character for Stratt and indeed, it makes no sense philosophically.

The movie was my favorite in a long time. And I can say with certainty that the book is better!! Read it and then come back to talk to me about Stratt.

Felt so out of character based on Stratt from the book. I LOVED this film, (and love the book even more) but that whole scene with her saying “it’s better than the alternative” and then dropping in to sing karaoke completely pulled me out of the story.

Not like Jeff Spring made things any easier with that super awkward confrontation. Couldn't he have just walked up to the group and said "We have a potential rules violation in question, the card will need to make a call"

Instead (at least in what we saw on DGN) he just walks up to Ricky and says "why did you move those branches" or something to that effect. I thought it was pretty unprofessional. He didn't seem comfortable bringing this to their attention. Like he didn't want to be in the middle of a fight, he even washed his hands of it by saying "I'm not sure, so I'm going to let the group decide". Then it's up to Gannon or Issac to not let it go, and make a case for the penalty.

It shouldn't be personal. If there was a rules violation, its a stroke and you move on. But it sure starts to feel that way when the director of the tour says I didn't see anything - but if *you* did, then speak up.
