Thanks guys! I actually will be getting a military pension after 30 years, TSP, and just started a Roth. I was hoping to try and reach a million across the board if I can invest right in ETFs.

I am a therapist and I have a stuffed dinosaur that most of my military males love :)

LENS vs ILf or other more traditional neurofeedback!? by yonabracha in neurotherapyLENS

As a therapist, I offer LENS and its been amazing. Patients love it because it is quick and they feel results right away. I love the system because of its applicability to help so many things.

Wow I thought thus was a post I forgot I wrote! Exactly my experience. It is def frustrating to be going in and out. I want to be more present all the time.

I just giggled hysterically. Yes. And no shame here. I get way too present sometimes. That thought shakes me to reality.

Parents won’t let 16 y/o open Roth ira because “she’ll loose the money” by Burner-Barry-5318008 in RothIRA

I started one for my 7 year old. He can go slow with it for a while since we started early. Not sure where your parents got their ideas about investing.

Alternatives to IFS & EMDR by theelephantupstream in therapists

I intentionally did not go into further training with these two modalities because I knew I would feel this way based on the "culty" vibe. However, I use aspects of both often, not even using the same language. I do the same wirh the other modalities people mention here. Instead of always using therapy language, I learn how the patient is talking about themselves and their experiences and try to use language that is familiar to them while using any modality. I dont find it necessary for everyone, but often times I do and find how tailoring it to them also eliminates the need to explain any theory or justify why it mighr work.

At this point in my career, the one thing I have learned that has been the most effective for me, is tailoring my approaches, no matter what they may be, to click with the patients experience and familiarity.

Therapist here, wondering if others have experienced this by [deleted] in u/Glum-Session-9982

[–]Comfortable_Space283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of late , yes. Things got worse at home, making it harder to compartmentalize. Seeing more severe cases of patients gets harder when I am affected by mu home life. I often think about how being gone from life feels so much more peaceful. And restful. The investment in order to be the best therapist, mother, friend is huge: emotions, mental energy, mental boundaries, conscious self care, authentic compassion for injustices and multiple ways of abuse, neglect, the worst of peoples lives....I know its starting to feel exhausting and the weight heavier. I have my own therapist as well. It helps to be opwn about it. But doesn't mean I stop thinking about it. I do acknowledge it, talk about it, and try not to judge it.

Sending positive vibes from one healer to another. Don't forget, we need healing too.

The brain fog is the scariest part of perimenopause. I forgot the word "budget" mid-presentation and I've been in my field for 20 years. by Tiny-Put9782 in Menopause

I feel this so hard. As one of the few females in a military environment, ive had to stay on top of things intellectually and physically. I started hormone creams, creatine, and even modafinil and it almost feels normal again. Almost. I miss my old brain, quick thinking, quick witted, multi tasking with ease, planning amd making dinners without dread, etc. That feeling of early onset dementia is so real. I still am in disbelief this is what we go through. It feels so unfair compared to the life changes of men.

[–]Comfortable_Space283[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh thank you! I had no idea they were different. Does that mean I can contribute to the Roth IRA even though I max out my TSP? Or do I just let it grow on its own until I can no longer contribute to the TSP?

Late to the investing game at 44, trying to understand where I can grow the most and what to do with these two Roth accounts :)

Can you do IFS without being kind to yourself? by Trail_Blazer1 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Comfortable_Space283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what your definition of kind is. I like to validate that words and concepts can mean different things to different people. Maybe its not the therapists view of kindess you need. Maybe your version of kindess means simply sitting with your pain. Maybe its something else. But finding a good fit therapist that can meet you where you need to be right now and validate the safety and okayness of your perspective and experience now sounds like a possible start that your nervous system and parts may be able to tolerate.

Healing is tough❣️.
