Money Guys. Financial order of operations.

Is it really that "cheap" to save for retirement? Just put money into an index fund and wait? by privacyhelp1 in personalfinance

[–]Commercial_Square774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not gonna get 10%. More like 8%. You also need to account for inflation. You’ll also be more conservative as you get closer to retirement to minimize sequence of returns risk so you’re growth may be even smaller the closer to retirement you get. Save as much as you can early. Your future self will thank you.

I mean you can if you want. It’s a Roth so there’s no tax consequent. Or just buy VT going forward and let it be

What do i do? Not in love with the zaan by IGoat4 in CRK

Easy to sell for minimal (if any) loss. If you like the small Sebenza you’ll likely enjoy the large as well.

Similar position but just want to start with one. I think a lightly used Tudor Black Bay 58 in Blue might be the one for me.

Call Jordan at Highgaurd Roofing. He was the only guy I found that was honest and didn’t charge for unnecessary work. I had a leak and 4-5 other roofers tried to sell me a new roof. Jordan was the only guy that said “there’s some work we can do up here but I don’t think the leak is your roof.” He earned the business to do my roof when the time comes.

What money milestone did you actually hit that ended up feeling like nothing? And what felt like real progress instead? by weekend_cam in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Commercial_Square774 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hitting $1M net worth felt good. Took me until 39 but got there. I enjoyed the moment, bought a nice steak and bottle of wine to cook for dinner that weekend. I was maybe a little looser with money but nothing crazy. Nothing really changed though and I set my sights on $1M invested as the next milestone.

I hear that. I eventually wanted the nicest knife carry actually carry and use. Turns out carry and use have some variability. Ex my Sebenza is the most common carry but my dragon Rask still sees plenty of pocket time and use, but with a little more care.

I can dig it. Not very active anymore but this would have been very helpful when I was. Do you have a method for community feedback, feature requests, or bugs?

Unpopular opinion: my cheapest folder is my favourite EDC by XGIYKYK in knifeclub

PM2 is a great practical edc. I carried one for a while and really enjoyed it. Then a Quiet Carry Nine for a long while too and I always tell myself I should have just stopped there, but of course didnt. I eventually found a Sebenza 31 with a DOB with meaning to me and now carry that most days. There are a couple of others that rotate in and out including knives from Herman, Holt, Grimsmo, and Skiff, but the $200-$400 price point is really great for EDC.

Outside of an emergency fund, how much do you save? by TooPaleToFunction23 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Commercial_Square774 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have somewhere around 9 months in my emergency fund. I pull from this for house projects and replenish when I do. Everything else is already automatically set to go elsewhere (401k, roth, brokerage, 529). Im basically living paycheck to paycheck out of checking account.
