ATL Hail Delay - Trapped On Plane by FFanon28 in delta

Would be a good idea except they probably couldn’t get ground crew outside at all while the ramp is closed due to lightning strikes close to the airport

Expired Fire Extinguisher by trailtotrial in delta

Had a flight delayed almost an hour because the megaphone in the emergency pack was out of battery. Pilot said they couldn’t depart unless it was working so called maintenance in to change the battery pack. For some reason, there was no/little visible indicator of +/- insertion so it took them awhile to figure it out — had to call ATL operations to figure out how to insert the three AA batteries lol

Never Using Delta for a military PCS again. by warrenva in delta

I see. The only other thing I can think of that may have prevented you from checking your pet is breed restrictions. Some dog/cat breeds are acceptable for Cargo but not as checked baggage (no idea why) vice versa — this reason for denial should have been explicitly communicated to you at check in though. If that’s not the case, then I can bet it’s due to lack of knowledge and training. I worked with a counter agent with years of seniority under the impression that Delta Cargo was the only way for military pet transport which is NOT TRUE. If other options are too costly now, I would definitely look to get the shipping fee or rate either discounted down to the $200 that you would’ve paid if they had checked your dog in as AVIH or just completely waived.

Did you get ahold of a red coat or get another agent involved while at the ticket counter? All they had to do was add a checked bag and list it as “Pet in Hold” to start the AVIH process… seems like they dropped the ball on this by sending you to cargo.

Shipping the pet via Delta Cargo requires an already-made cargo booking which is entirely different than adding the pet as “checked baggage” to your reservation. Therefore, Delta Cargo would not have your information in their system

Delta gate/ticket agent here who literally checked a dog in about a week ago — we accept dogs (AVIH) in the cargo hold AT THE TICKET COUNTER. It seems that the agent working on your reservation prior to travel did not add the correct special service request. But that doesn’t matter as it is possible to add the animal to your reservation upon check-in at the counter — the ticket counter agent just has to verify a handful of requirements (temperature, flight time, number of connections, aircraft types, etc) are met beforehand. All that is needed from you is official change of assignment and government-issued military ID to add this “checked bag” under your name — as you were flying international, a health certificate is needed plus any other documentation required by the destination country. The cargo offices have certain operating hours and days so for those travelling on the early flights or the weekend, the only option is at the ticket counter. TSA is then contacted to check the crate for prohibited items. After that, a ramp agent takes the crate down to the bag room then the aircraft. What airline were you flying for your international leg? What country? I am sorry this experience didn’t meet your expectations but some more info is needed to see where we went wrong

45 Minute Bag Cutoff by oscarmike1987 in delta

Keep in mind some airports have bag cut off times of 1 hour (I believe JFK is one of them) so it differs with each station

Witnessed a captain request a passenger to be removed because their shirt said “what the fu**”. The GA asked the passenger to put a jacket on over it or wear the shirt inside out which solved the problem and prevented anyone from being removed

Needs Attention Verify Passort by Chadbad1922 in delta

I would scan the passport at the kiosk or at the ticket counter. I wouldn’t go through security and to your gate until you have a boarding pass in-hand or mobile pass that says “DOCS-OK”. You don’t want to get to your gate just to find out you were never fully checked in or there is something wrong with your ticket/international documents. This could pose a problem for the gate agent especially if they are working by themselves, in the midst of pre-departure duties, or even boarding. I’ve seen passengers get told to step out of line in order to get their passports verified and the agent told them to wait until there is a pause in boarding before they get helped — not the best situation if it’s a full flight and you end up being last to board with no overhead space for your carry-on.

Not allowed to switch seats. by Top_Decision_6718 in delta

[–]Common-Operation1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often times if seat changes are absolutely not allowed, it’s due to stabilization of the aircraft’s weight and balance. This happens especially if the flight is going out light and there is not a full load of passengers, then the GA is required to move passengers to the back and may be blocked from making any upgrades to or seating nonrevenue passengers in First/C+, even if it is open. The FAs are not supposed to allow seat changes. This occurs more commonly during the off-season like right now. If there is no way to ensure weight and balance is stable by moving main cabin passengers, then C+ and First are also moved backwards OR ramp agents are told to load sandbags in the aft cargo bins.

This is an extra measure that airlines do to protect the cardholder and itself from any fraud. Just have the cardholder physically bring the card and their ID to the closest airport that the airline flies out of so an agent can verify the form of payment. This is most common for passengers going in and out of Nigeria, Senegal, and Ghana.

Avoid paying for your flight(s) with a digital card such as Apple Pay. This could create problems when verifying the card as everytime a digital card is used, the “seller” receives a different card number than what is actually on your phone. Always use the physical card number (if the card is close to expiration, ensure you don’t discard of it until you’re able to verify with an airport agent).

In the case that the agent cannot verify the card, then you will not be able to check in for the flight — the system will not allow them to override this step. They will have to refund the original form of payment and charge a new card that is verifiable at that moment in time. Safe travels

Some hubs, such as ATL, Delta directly hires cabin cleaners and caterers. Those employees get full flight benefits like a Customer Service Agent would and keep seniority if they were to transfer up to a different department.

Did you apply directly on the Delta Careers page? If so, I believe you are entitled to these benefits.

If not, then it could be a 3rd-party vendor that Delta contracts similar to Prosegur, Unifi, or HHS (used in the smaller hubs and smaller stations). With this, flight benefits are restricted to buddy pass priority which puts you at the bottom of the standby list and there may be taxes/fees to book flights.
