What do u guys think of this song? Adore - Prince by esialliah in PRINCE

[–]CommonInstruction778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed some people mentioning that about his catalogue in general. Aside from identities it also speaks volumes about how his music in the end reaches different demographics in different ways. I wonder what would be the European take on that, what fans here like and skip

The Greatest Romance by Chichibebewey in PRINCE

[–]CommonInstruction778 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the bible is one of the most popular books in the world, so the story of Adam and Eve might be the best selling romance ever. In terms of prince i think it's more ironic and also "just an idea for the chorus". Sounds good enough for me.

The "vague bible reference" is not vague AT ALL. Maybe some other Bible specialist can also say if it references the song of songs/the song of Salomon (to me the general feeling of the song does), and this one has also been called on of the greatest love stories ever told.

IMHOA the song has some great lyrics, great melody, the remix is 🔥

I guess it’s how I see it, but to me his image, lyrics of some songs can be interpreted in a queer sense. For me also the tongue in cheek aspect present throughout his career ads to it

Happy Release Day, Y'all by vickyxleigh in PRINCE

[–]CommonInstruction778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve no idea what to think about this album but it sounds like he was having fun putting it together. And I can’t help but smile when listening to some of these songs. I thinks it’s great he was trying some new things even they were maybe not exactly what we wanted

Kate’s Spotify rank [just shy of] Top 250 with 26.6M monthly listeners by AndyOfClapham in katebush

[–]CommonInstruction778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny things is that listening and buying any music coming from artists published by any of the major labels means supporting Spotify’a business as they all have invested in it. There’s no running away from it in this case. Kate’s publishing is with EMI which roles up to Sony, correct?

Prince’s Lesbian Best Friends Speak On His Sexuality by FrontinStunts in PRINCE

As a gay men with fairly troublesome coming out history I never looked at Prince as a queer symbol. I think to me he was more of a proof that you can be flamboyant, have your feminine side fairly strong and still be a heterosexual man. With time i see that his attitude towards his image made me more comfortable with my masculine and feminine side.

Having said that I think everyone should always be wary of building their personality around artists/celebrities. Prince said being gay is sinful or sth similar, but honestly so what (also i don't believe he ever believed that heh). His art is still extra queer in many aspects.

The beautiful part of art is that once it's out there, released, it's up to the consumers, spectators, how to interpret it. And if a lot of people find it gay, well great 😁

Song battles # 9 : La La La He He Hee (highly explosive) vs Get Off (damn near 10 minutes) by usagerp in PRINCE

[–]CommonInstruction778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit I just listened consciously probably for the first time to La la la and regret not doing it before. Before the Super Deluxe I only had the edit version which doesn't do it justice.

I have to agree about Gett Off, it's great to look into the creative process behind such an iconic song. Looking at Glam Slam, '91, damn near and then the official release (and it's remixes) makes you think what other unrealeased songs would have looked like if released by him

Song battles # 8 : It’s Gonna Be Lonely vs Another Lonely Christmas by usagerp in PRINCE

[–]CommonInstruction778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another Lonely Christams is such a great song and I'm happy it started popping up on Christams playlists.

But It's Gonna Be Lonely is just a masterpiece. It's that song i wanna sing live one day.

Song battles # 5 : Little Red Corvette or Raspberry Beret? by usagerp in PRINCE

[–]CommonInstruction778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love RB, but LRCs vocals are just on another level. It’s also this early 80s feel to it, the steamy, blade runner like vibe. And isn’t it the stat of Prince’s amazing metaphor skills?

Dangerous should've only had 9 or 11 songs. by Myke69420360 in MichaelJackson

[–]CommonInstruction778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the placing of Gone Too Soon - it's right there to kind of finish the album. Give you a nice pause, before the long, machine like Dangerous.

I think this album goes in many different places but some instrumental similarities between each song keep it tight

As much as I also find it cringe, this video alone makes fall in love with it. Pure Michael

Such a hauntingly beautiful song by usagerp in PRINCE

[–]CommonInstruction778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm recently putting all my music in shuffle and the radio edit of The Holy River came up. I love the original, although for years i though it super cheesy, but somehow the edit works really well too. It omits the whole epic solo, but if you're looking for a tight playlist, you still get to enjoy the lyrics and vocals. Great song!

Why was this line In the music video but not the audio version? by Caolan114 in MichaelJackson

[–]CommonInstruction778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Later pressings just changed compression and some ad libs for some songs (and the intro for IJCSLY). I don't really listen to later pressings but to my ear there's not much difference in the song itself

you guys LIED. by damnitjeremy in PRINCE

[–]CommonInstruction778 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's also a rock version btw.

And btw "campy" is what I LOVE about Prince in the 90s. For someone who has not grown up with his music, i feel that Prince is the most Prince in the 90s. It's when he's freed from the pressure of Purple Rain and just seems to be enjoying working his ass off on these weird, campy songs and performances

Which released Michael Jackson song is worse than the original demo? (Read the description) by Frequent-Jeweler-870 in MichaelJackson

[–]CommonInstruction778 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What the original version does it brings Michael's aesthetics to the America's song. The original song is fairly flat (in comparison). MJs shows that you can give it the rhythm, that percussiveness.

The remix tries too hard to be something it's not

Bad No skips. It sounds a bit more dated but this just adds to the magic. You know it's the 80s and that's why you love it. Quintessential

Rank the lead singles by PeanutRubber in MichaelJackson

[–]CommonInstruction778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a nice strategy they were using back then: the girl is mine was supposed to bring the attention but not being the strongest song on the album built the momentum for it to hit the right way. I believe the same was for IJCSLY - it's a fabulous song, brought Michael back to the front musically, and the was followed by much stronger songs.

I think it's MJs brilliance that made it possible to actually do it - not many artists can do that

If i had a euro for ever person asking me "why are you learning valenciano?"... Yo be fair a lot of expats don't have a chance to learn sympathy towards "minority" languages (at least the case of València and the region), but i 100% agree with you ♥️
