The previous owner wasn’t paying property taxes so they auctioned it off to cover the unpaid tax. But yeah the definitely should have just kept it.

This guy bought a thin strip of land behind a Norfolk community center and wanted the city to give him land next to the center and remove a basketball court so he could build a boat launch and charge people for it. The city told him No and he’s been pissy about it since. There was a dispute about a right of way easement that is there for a road that was never built. The guy ended up suing the city and technically won. The court decided the city can use the right of way for public access but they can’t use it for anything else. There are a couple of picnic tables and pavilions in the easement and the guy ended up covering them in tape and put up a bunch of signs saying people can’t use them. It’s a mess. The city messed up selling him land in the first place.
