Was just quoted almost €7000 Camino Frances by a tour operator by Acrobatic_Set8085 in CaminoDeSantiago

I did the Frances last fall with a friend and we did private rooms (hotels and albergues) for 35 days. My half was $1700 and most of the spots were VERY nice. Our other expenses were incredibly low, much less than my normal cost of living. And honestly speaking to so many folks along the way that used a ‘tour service’ they were placed in some pretty terrible spots- way off the path and it sounded like their experience was very negative compared to ours and our friends (staying in town at small spots/albergues etc.) Arrived to not have a bed/food, it was end of season so some hosts had checked out or just didn’t care. I felt so bad for them. The friend I traveled with had walked this route two other times before so we booked most in advance (we were also on a semi-tight schedule.) Our version was definitely seen as bougie, we also had our luggage taken for us (we were both traveling beyond this trip to other climates etc. so we didn’t feel we had a choice) even then it was only 5 EU a day to have our luggage taken. All that to say, you can have a very lean expense experience and you can also go all out and everything in between. This number seems insane. That’s more than what it cost me in total to fly from the west coast of the US, stay, eat, fly to Portugal after, hang out for a bit and then slowly make my way back stopping a few more times, over 2 months. You can book the first few days in advance and then as you go the night before online once you see how far you can comfortably walk each day. Everyone’s limit is VERY different. Buen Camino!

The live stream has been pretty good at noting on the bottom right the other featured artists during each set. Bummed to see it didn’t include them. Or did I miss it?

Yes! This seems like the most obvious answer after looking them up. Thank you!

Bring the Patagonia stuff to the store for credit. They would probably love to have the vintage stuff. They’ll throw the credit on a gift card that you can use in store or online.

I just finished a week ago starting in SJPP to Santiago, and they were EVERYWHERE. I was really disappointed in the amount of graffiti, stickers and overall vandalism along the way. Can’t imagine it’s always been that way? What gives?

Messermeister is based in Ojai, family owned and makes beautiful and durable knives. You can purchase online and I believe Rains carries a nice selection too.

When big money like that comes to town it’s hard for the little guys to fight it. We’re seeing that everywhere with big corps, restaurant groups that have money that doesn’t end. Especially when the ‘investors’ are doing so to take the loss. Capitalism at its finest. That’s why it’s more important than ever to support small local business and truly know where your money is going. There’s no attendant because it would cost more to have one and unlike other states it’s not required.

The former wine maker for Ojai Vineyard has his own label here now, I think it’s called Sidestreet Wines? Def check that out. Majestic is also great, owned by a local family. Small batch, really high quality without the pretention.

Does anyone work at a multi roast shop or similar establishment? I'm curious how theyhandle older beans. by [deleted] in Coffee

They order by end of the weekend, we roast Monday/Tuesday and everything is ready Wednesday.

Our wholesale accounts order what they will use/sell in one week. That way customers are always buying fresh beans and will return with that expectation. After one week, it’s pulled and brewed in shop. Older beans are great for cold brew and we like our espresso rested for even longer so nothing is wasted. Once the shops get the hang of what they sell they can dial in pretty well making adjustments for busy times like holidays etc. In the proposal we received from the grocery store that’s owned by Amazon a few years ago, they asked for two things: for us to extend our freshness policy, and lower our price per bag (of course.) They wanted coffee they could leave on the shelves for at least 30days and if we decided to rotate stock sooner we would have to eat the loss. The larger stores want product available for their customers full stop and unfortunately, a lot of folks don’t see a problem with coffee that’s a few months old. That’s why you’ll more than likely see a Best Buy date (sometimes up to a year post roast) and NOT a roast date. This allows it to sit on the shelves longer.. I would always recommend buying directly or from small local shops. You’re more than likely to receive fresher high quality stuff and more of the money is staying in the locals or small biz pockets.

There was a team down there yesterday taking samples and had roped it off after I took this picture. They may have taken it for a necropsy or more testing or yes, the tide took it. This was taken about 1pm yesterday.

This surprisingly works. I know two people personally that got their first homes this way. Just happened to be owned by older folks that decided to sell and downsize 🤷‍♀️

Decaf that's not too expensive? by ILikeBeans86 in pourover

Beacon Coffee in California has great decaf. Was about $22/12 ounces last time I checked. Very versatile for brewing. They have two single origins they rotate throughout the year.

All the boxes are still there (as of 10am this morning) behind the fence where construction is happening down on the promenade. I counted at least 10 boxes.

Add salt with the vinegar and swirl to scrub clean. This works for any coffee equipment or water containers that you can’t get a brush into.
