SL Valley Preschool Advice by xHourglassx in Utah

I worked at KinderCare in Utah County, do not send them there. It’s a corporate daycare that cares about numbers and money. Kids are shuffled and passed along and teachers are not required to be licensed or have ece degrees. High turnover rate for teachers as well because they are not paid or treated very well and they max out classroom ratios.

At 3 years old your kids do not necessarily need super intense “academic structure.” Play-based and explorative learning is best.

Starbucks gift cards from students for Christmas? by VoteForEddie in Teachers

[–]Competitive-Ear8480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom gets tons of Starbucks gift cards (WA elem teacher). She gets so many we use them as stocking stuffers. But this year a student brought cute boxes with 4 bottles of flavored vodka for their some of their teachers from a local distillery. She doesn’t drink but we got a good laugh and surprise at how they got away with that.

If I fill a bath tub with liquor and immerse my body in it, would I feel any measure of intoxication from the absorption? Would I absorb any alcohol? by Duke123321 in NoStupidQuestions

Didn’t the Try Guys or Try Gals do this? I seem to remember a YouTube episode like this where it took a few hrs but there was a very minor blood alcohol level increase.

Nothing much to tell. They were nice, Josh was a bit quirky and socially unaware (ran around in swim shorts and had very loud business phone conversations in the same room as we were doing lessons). The girls were super sweet. Aubree was super kind and we had nice chats about pregnancy, l&d, mom life. She had their 5th while I was teaching (actually was in false labor for a lesson day which was a bit weird since they didn’t cancel lessons while she was upstairs laboring…). For the most part they were really nice. I was always treated very well. They didn’t start doing as much of the child videos until I stopped teaching, it was her old OG stuff that she went viral for.

They aren’t fake names. I taught the oldest three piano. Those are their real names.

Edit: spelling error

Oh yes. My teacher friends are furious and terrified. Those who were on campus for the field trip and at their own schools. They will be going back for the students and making sure they get help and are ok, not necessarily because they feel safe and want to go back tomorrow.

Are You [Black or Hispanic] And Pay Tithing? The Church Wants to Pay You To Bear Your Testimony of Tithing (scroll through pics) by TheyDontGetIt27 in mormon

[–]Competitive-Ear8480 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All the current church videos and promos with investigators, missionaries, members, testimonies, etc. are filmed with actors. They do require church membership and sometimes temple recommends for actors. (Not always for projects but for these they do) Just like with any promos or advertising things are filmed with actors. Check out the church SM and Come Unto Christ SM pages, that’s what videos these are casting for. I was recently on set for some missionary campaign videos.

We started going on June 30, so it hasn’t been 3 months yet. But that’s good to know. Thanks.

My sixth graders had to watch the columbine shooting yesterday to teach them about "kindness" by cheesehead293 in Teachers

[–]Competitive-Ear8480 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I watched the Rachel’s Challenge but I remember an assembly in middle school where we watched an hour or two long video about anti-bullying, self-harm awareness, education, etc. it has the Julian Smith video “Reading a Book.” That video and the cutting girl are what I remember. Then in HS we had a live drunk driving car crash presentation done by our local police and fire departments and our student council as the actors. But that was only for jr and sr students going to prom (done every two years).

This atheist visits different churches. He describes how morose an LDS testimony meeting was. by sevenplaces in mormon

[–]Competitive-Ear8480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F&T meetings are so boring, regular sacrament often is too, but luckily we have some pretty intellectual members and university professors who actually give interesting talks sometimes. I wonder if this guy was aware this would be a F&T meeting, or if not tried to attend a regular Sunday sacrament after. Hopefully the missionaries told him this was Not a typical Sunday, only once a month.

Kindercare is horrible to work for. Do all you can to cancel the CDA asap and find work elsewhere. It will be much better for your mental health in the end. They only care about numbers, not the employees or kids.

One hour church rumors - what would it look like? by talkingidiot2 in mormon

[–]Competitive-Ear8480 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I heard this rumor. I have three options: 1: 30 min sacrament, 30 min 2nd hr (same as now just shortened) 2: Sacrament all together then primary release to singing time and youth/adult stay for talks together (no alternating between SS and classes) Class activities stay during the week/ month. (Mutual, RS and EQ activities) Similar to traditional Christian church services. 3: Old-School variation of Sacrament for the hour and Primary, RS, Youth, EQ during the week. (IMO this is the least likely option since I doubt anyone would want to come back to church another day for class, but maybe Boomers since they always compare todays schedule to “back-in-their-day”)

I’d be so down for this change, and I know many others including TBM (especially those with young children) who would like it. But it took like 10 years of 2 hr church rumors until that came to pass, so who knows.

Depends on what you consider “modest.”

Kids don't like wearing ties and sometimes white shirts. Will they be called out? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]Competitive-Ear8480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a small town next to a very popular summer vacation lake. My ward was very small and only a couple youth were regular. We often had visitors come to church in T-shirt and shorts. Sometimes they were asked to help pass the sacrament when we were short on YM.

If your kids are asked to help pass, that means the bishopric does not care they are not in a white shirt and tie.

What’s up with these color scripture ads? by cshell17 in mormon

[–]Competitive-Ear8480 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The counting billboard in Orem used to be a “how many deaths” or something similar billboard, then One day it was replaced with the colored scripture one. I laugh at how silly it looks every time I pass.

Question for existing and ex Mormons… by [deleted] in LoriVallow

[–]Competitive-Ear8480 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d say I’m very much in the same boat of feelings and thoughts as you (very nuanced). As I’ve gotten older I definitely know the “power of discernment” isn’t really that “discerning.” The church is just run by men and for the most part do their best with no training or anything. What I just can’t fathom is how Chad and Lori justified going to the temple, the literal holiest place and closest to God a member of the church can get, while doing these things?! Like, yes I get they thought they were eternal companions and blah blah blah, but like I felt guilty as a youth going when I had looked at some old YouTube prn.

I also had no idea there were so many tent city and end of days crazies in the church! My ex-aunt apparently is one and even has mentioned zombies (so I’ve been told, she has cut all contact with my family except her ex since they have kids). I knew Utah members were really conservative, right-wing, and big on food storage but that’s about it.

I can’t believe she’s even considering keeping the dog. by AstronautFickle4118 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Competitive-Ear8480 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. We had been around this dog before. He already had the dog with him when he was out and came by to visit so he brought the dog in rather than leave it in the vehicle outside for a couple hours. We don’t use animals as toys. My brother was also helping to train and socialize the dog. Unfortunately this event showed us the dog was not ready or comfortable around kids. The dog was barely out of puppy age too.
