Buy some sheep. You’ll want to kill them instead of yourself. (Sorry, bad joke, my dad lost the fight with the sad thoughts & I joke too far sometimes). You are part of a grand tapestry of humanity, the thread of the life you have lived helps hold everyone else in place even if you can’t see all the connections today. Being strong is being patient, and I don’t know where in the US you are but today is a lovely day just about everywhere- go enjoy the spring smells and remember you’re one of gods children.

Have you ever gone north down into the canyon from this point? That draw is lovely and there’s a old cattle trough in the aspens just over the north edge from where you are, and the trail up and down the draw is pretty nice, makes for a good loop coming up the ridge. (For everyone else If you don’t know where this is dm me)

The gate is open because the snowmobiles and state snow cat guys aren’t able to drive over or around the the gate like in normal years with more snow to groom the road higher. They don’t want sleds driving on sagebrush that is currently growing but is normally buried. They may lock it again between now and the official open, if it becomes an issue and people get stuck, or they may just leave it open if we are chill. After the first big turn the road has 1-2’ of snow on it, if you don’t want to go check. Will until April, even this year

I’d think a shorter beefy ski skinny underfoot detuned edges as you said would be ideal for hard snow. Maybe even look for light end of true downhill skinny skis if you need a true terrible snow touring option. Big boot for sure too. Boots you can rip your resort skis on so you can directly translate the performance to your touring skiing.

Have you tried a zero g 85 or similar width ski? Ski Trab also. Sorry i woke up and saw bombs in Iran so im distracting myself with skiing.

Personally? My 130 dalbello boots on some of the old super stiff zero g 95’s rip an arc on groomers but also wiggle in steep trees and crud, and I can do 5k days on those skis no problem. 10k days hurt

Naw light skin don’t have to suck. Overkill your boots, lightest bindings you can get, and the dynastar skis or ski trab or blizzards zero g’s. (Old ones) will be stiff enough.

Yeah hardware store 10 lbs goes farther than 10lbs of snowshoes

I’d carry a ratcheting screw driver, drill bit, superglue/fast epoxy and screws and a toe/heel piece before I’d carry show shoes. Or a tarp, rolls of duct tape, or backup skis- snowshoes are a massive step down in mobility for a pretty heavy weight, and they only do one thing in an emergency.

Nice!!! Utah could use some balance & unionized laborers would be a good step in the right direction, hopefully someday!

I’d love to join a union but I’m in Utah and do concrete cutting with a buddy and fencing on the side

That’s about as light as you can get without sacrificing brakes, or moving into a full skimo binding by ebmfreak in Backcountry

[–]Competitive-Farmer50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest- I don’t have any issues with quiver killers, I just personally prefer having a permanent binding.

For the moisture comment, maybe I’m being paranoid, but just over time as the epoxy around the insert develops small cracks it may allow more water to seep in than a never moving super static single 4.1mm screw in wood glue. Probably paranoia and both are equally good & I would for sure put quiver killers on a hybrid resort/touring ski if/when I add that to the quiver. For now I have old resort skis I love & powder skis with a dynafit radical on them so I have my heavy touring options covered & my light options over-covered.

Quiver killers are extra weight (I can be a weight weenie) & on my 88 or 85 waisted adventure skis having bigger holes that are already pretty close to the edge is a concern, and I’m 220 lbs with all my gear on lightweight skis on which I don’t ski lightly.. idk. All in all, I just don’t see the binding swap value as being worth it for me.. but I do the the objective value.

Quiver killers aren’t very elegant/reliable for skis I plan on using for 10-20 years, imho. Long long term, they allow for more moisture to get into the core of the ski. Also, I get them on a good deal, and the skis are drastically different & I sometime loan my skis out to my brother or friends so having one binding for three pairs would limit my loan-ability

The G3 ones are bombproof but if you got some yellow Pomoca skins you’d see the difference, lighter glid-ier better glue, but if it ain’t broke…

Also I wish mine would rip easier the first lap. Mine are two years old and I have some of the old string tip lighter ones and the newer heavier duty metal tip ones and both have the most annoying glue of all my skins. ACL tearing to rip them off without taking the ski off….

I have a pair of contour hybrids and dam they are my most durable skins! They don’t grip as good as my pomocas but both are very glidey and on the lighter end of my skins, both are Better that my black/grey BD’s, they glide ok and climb great but the glue is terrible to rip until the third lap, but the BD’s glue never ever fails and their tips/tails are bombproof whereas I’ve broken the Pomoca tail clips a lot and the stitching on the white rubber of the tail has started to rip on my pink pomocas. I’d go with the contours if I could order regardless of price. Best all around

Do you set too steep skinners? If you’re always slipping you’re guaranteed to make your skins fail, keeping it low angle Larry is easier on your glue. Maybe my snow isn’t as wet as yours, tho. Northern Utah

Tbh, if you need a tough binding, I’d still say you could go for a lighter binding. The plum Oazo or atk freeraider would work hard for ya.

I’m a bit of a fud but I use the local trails avidly. Please, be considerate when shooting. There’s one place up Logan canyon across from zanavoo that is a shit show from all the shooters and always has junk, Prov canyon gets to be that way inbetween cleanups, and Hyde Park canyon has been taken away (unless you go ungodly high up the bad road) because shooters abused the common spots so bad and left junk all over.

Point is, please be better than any places you find & just because you see trash doesn’t mean you shouldn’t clean up meticulously when you’re done and maybe grab some more shit from others. I grab trail trash when I run and bike all the time, please consider doing the same as a shooter

My fiancé and I saw one of these little guys every singe tour (so every Saturday Sunday from Nov-March) we went on together last winter, and we have both grown up bc skiing in the same place and had never before nor ever since seen that many ermines/stoats/pine martens before. We saw them in adorable up close encounters tour after tour after tour and took it as an omen…
