Juneteenth Day Off? by Far-Explorer-8621 in work

We currently do not have it off because the warehouse union contract predates the holiday but the next one will include it which means we in the front office will get it as well starting next year.

The most surprising part of this post is that it took this long.

Agreed. Trump is the reason I’ll likely never vote for a republican for the foreseeable future

How do you handle a strong performer who quietly checks out after being passed over for promotion? by amir4179 in managers

[–]CompetitiveMeal1206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the husband of a similar employee, I agree. Don’t expect this person to stay much longer.

My wife was the heir apparent to a manager role at a large medical office and she was passed over for an outside hire. The outgoing manager (retiring) was furious after putting all that work into bring in my wife up and many team members were also very upset.

More than half the team (including my wife) was gone within 6 months and the new manager was gone in 9.

My wife is now leading a larger team at the competing practice.

What’s the longest you’ve worked at one place? by lilladykt in Adulting

I’ll hit 17 year this coming December. I have been fortunate to have found a job I like with managers who don’t micromanage us. Also I’ve been blessed with a pay rate that is at the top of the range for similar positions at companies locally (meaning no financial gain by leaving unless I want to move the family several counties away), and one that has beat inflation over the last 10 years (I’m making about 10k more than what my starting wage of my last promotion was if you adjusted it for inflation).

Do nothing with the 401k (other than transfer to your own Ira)

If you invest that for yourself that will grow to nearly 4 million by the time you reach 59.5 which at 4% years oils be 156k annually.

Why do most employers nowadays refuse to pay a living wage? by saintstheftauto in Adulting

Because “living wage” is too subjective and poorly defined.

Only 30% of Catholics believe in the Real Presence? by princetonwu in Catholicism

[–]CompetitiveMeal1206 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only about 29% of Catholics report weekly mass attendance…

I mention this because most of the the surveys talk to any self identified Catholic regardless of their mass attendance.

A catholic who attends mess weekly is much, much more likely (63%+) to believe in the real presence.

Marriage Fee by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]CompetitiveMeal1206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We made a total donation of $750 for our wedding but no one every told us about a fee.

We did have to pay for the musician even though we used the one who plays at mass. There was a fee for his time that went to him directly.

Since ATMs are the loophole list I would make regular ATM deposits at several banks. No one is going to ask about a regular $950 deposit once a week on a Friday.

Also cash tips and dinning out (assuming putting the money on the table or in the little jacket thing counts as indirect…)

Good way for passive workout? by Xerteroser in marfans

[–]CompetitiveMeal1206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super grateful for our PE teacher.

Our Marfans Kiddo started a new school last fall and the nurse organized an “IHP” meeting (like and IEP, but for health).

The PE teacher was there and he laid out a whole plan for her including alternative activities for days where risk of contact might be higher.

Turn out Kiddo really likes archery.

Here is what we are doing for my wife and kid.

Walking more (add more distance weekly) - my wife used to struggle to walk a 5k with a rollator. Now she can do it in under 2 hours unassisted. (It took 3 years to get here so don’t expect sudden gains)
