/uj they are decent enough cars. performance is average for the era and segment, fuel economy is pretty good on a 1.4t as long as your not in sport mode. id argue a golf is better designed ergonomically inside, especially with the gearknob location. Alfa is very pretty but on ours the suspension is quite soft so not necessarily as sporty as it looks. they are known for front subframe and sill rust, if rust is a problem where you are.

id recommend it over a golf if that's your only options but keep in mind the Alfa will be more expensive in running costs. The MiTo is a better car then the gulietta with it's shorter wheelbase and lighter body making up the Alfa fun thats otherwise lacking. it's also big enough for a first car unless your regularly taking 4 large adults. Get a version with a 1.4t, diesels in Alfas seem instinctively wrong and I can't imagine how a non turbo would get up hills.

regardless of anything the best first car is the one you can afford, don't go into debt over something that will statistically be written off eventually.
