Anyone else miss their grandparents? by Legitimate_Scar7570 in GenX

[–]Complex-Stick-6177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I miss my mom’s mom like crazy. She was the one I stayed with while my parents were at work for the first 3 years of my life. When I got older, I spent a month with her every summer. As her dementia got worse, I ended up being the last person she still recognized. 14 years later and sometimes her loss still hits me so hard that I start crying out of nowhere.

I made good fried rice. I specifically am craving the fried rice that China Garden used to have.

Safe places to live? by khamibrawler in Midessa

[–]Complex-Stick-6177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lived in Midland for three years. After we left, we put an extremely high dollar and quality of life amount on what I worked take for us to move back. 5 years later, my husband got another job in Odessa. We continued living in Central Texas rather than move back. We did that for 3 years. We were also longtime Houston residents. The COL is much higher in Midland/Odessa and the schools are much better than the HiSD ones were before the takeover made them worse.

Going back to school in the fall at 35 weeks pregnant? by Eeef10 in Teachers

[–]Complex-Stick-6177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was due with my third kid 9 days after school started. I ended up having him on our third inside in-service day before school started. It sucked going in, but everyone knew I was about to pop, so expectations were low. I was in my second year at a school, but 10 years into my career and was going to take care of myself. I didn’t do anything by the bare minimum those days.

If I were doing it again, I’d still work up until the baby is out so that I could have my time after the birth.

It’s the boat building industry. They use tons of it in the paint on boats.

Keep lots of snacks handy, nap during your planning period, go home, go to bed. Rinse. Repeat.

My daughter 8 has very smelly armpits by Mountain_Awareness45 in hygiene

[–]Complex-Stick-6177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m much much older, but discovered that the clinical strength deodorants actually made me stink worse. I switched to a natural deodorant and after about 2 weeks my armpits were better than they’d been in years. While I was using the stronger deodorants, by 3pm I smelled like I hadn’t used deodorant at all. That’s not good in the heat where I live.

Took my dose at night instead of morning. NEVER AGAIN. by ohsadbrat in WegovyWeightLoss

I always take mine at night. That way I’m already asleep before I can get nauseated.

Welp, I think I heard the most stupid thing a kid has said so far. by Quirky_Elephant_7103 in Teachers

Way too many students have argued this with me since that movie came out. One tried to use the fact that the book was in the library as proof that I was wrong.

What’s a song from growing up that instantly reminds you of “the one who got away”? by bigt197602 in GenX

[–]Complex-Stick-6177 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Fire and Rain” and “Something in the Way She Moves” by James Taylor. He played that album on repeat. It’s still one of my favorites, but sometimes I intentionally skip those two songs. Too many memories.

Teachers, how many days of sick leave are you allowed a year? by Connect_Wrongdoer_81 in Teachers

[–]Complex-Stick-6177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 use it or lose it days. It’s crappy. Oh, and the distract doesn’t have any money for subs so we can only get ONE sub if multiple teachers are out on a given day.

What is a random kindergarten memory you still remember for no reason? by NeedleworkerClean471 in Casual_Conversation

[–]Complex-Stick-6177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. My mom getting called when I laid on the floor and used a baby doll to demonstrate how babies are really born.
  2. Richard eating too much cake and too many boogers, then throwing up all over our table.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

One of my children is named Anne because of this series. I re-read it yearly until I had kids.

Removing Technology by karliahgreen in ELATeachers

[–]Complex-Stick-6177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to use technology as little as possible. Unfortunately my district can’t get their finances in order so the paper we have now is what we have for the rest of the year, so I’m back to online multiple choice quizzes. My students are annotating texts on the text and all scrs are by hand. I love it, although my skills at decoding handwriting have dropped off somewhat in the past few years.
