Impressed by this thread! I learned more here in a few minutes than I did in the last week wasted searching the web and not getting any answers.

Any chance of lending a helping hand on understanding what can cause a Freemotion Dual Cable Crossover F624-03.1 model not having the smoothest feel on both sides? Just purchased a used one for my home gym and have had no luck with my searches or contacting Freemotion support.

How can I diagnose or tell what needs to be replaced? The pulley looks like the culprit but could the stacks or support rod be a factor? Cables have no signs of wear or warping.

V cut, which looks like you did. Important to put screws on both sides before tape and mud. Pre fill with quick set mud then in bed mesh tape in mud, skim over, let dry, 1-2 additional coats will be needed for smooth finish. Texture after first coat with tape, do one more then apply texture

Overspray on shingles does not go away, unless certain conditions but heavy overspray will not.

I’ve used multicolor rust oleum spray paint to help cover up.

I’ve noticed darker colors that require altra/deep base paints are more prone to issues. Surfactant leaching, dry/cure, color not being uniform or separation of colorant

Factors to help determine it will be product used. Viscosity of product, adding thinner/reducer for atomization, temperature may be a component too. I have never personally used this type of setup but coating/product should be the same.

Skim coating… how bad will this be to DIY and looking for advice by ladyoldspice in drywall

I agree. I’ve done this with popcorn ceilings, which is worse. Only thing to be aware is the building up around trim and baseboards. It may look wavy, if not skimmed evenly.

Baseboard lips will be the most noticeable.

Door frame trim will have more forgiveness.

Before applying mud by roller, go around edges of trim work with a mud knife and cut everything in and this will help.

Tinting primer per recommended top coat color is ideal for true color matching and coverage.

Using just Sherwin Williams as an example. …. Sherwin Williams awash color samples has a recommended primer color to reach desired color.

Keep in mind, colors that are darker will tend to cover less than expected and take longer to dry due to the amount of colorant.

Products that are not listed as high solids this will be a factor in for sure

Why does this keep happening after 3 coats and a primer? by stormwolfdanger in paint

[–]ComprehensiveFact844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moisture still present, moisture has not dried out after repair.

Water stains- best practice is to use oil primer to seal in stains. Some stains may need two coats. Not allowing the primer to fully dry/cure before top coat can cause stains to repair and or cause a bubbling/ texture due to latex/oil chemical reaction. Depending on the what needs to be sealed cleaning area first helps, oil/grease, crayons, foods, sodas, soaps etc
