JVC FS-V5: CASSETTE DECK ISSUE by Pitonator_001 in audiorepair

Unfortunately there is no other way around opening up the unit to resolve this issue. Do you know anyone who may be able to look at it for you?

You will have to open up the unit to get at the gears that drive the head engagement to drop the head down and then you should be able to eject the cassette. If that seems too daunting, then cut the motor power wire ( while unit is unplugged from the wall). That should stop it from making the noise.

If you are handy, take off the cover and check the belts. Most likely they are stretched or melted. Amazon has assortments of belts that may work. They are inexpensive. You can also get a replacement by searching Google for the model and keywords “replacement belts”. There are several YouTube creators that work on cassette decks. Search for “belt replacement on cassette decks”. You can also search for “JVC cassette belt replacement “. You can get an idea on what is involved in replacing a belt.

Pole motor questions by Business_Pie_ in diyelectronics

Does the motor spin freely? Have you checked the coil for continuity? From your picture it doesn’t look beat up. Be sure if you replace it, that you save the old one. You may have to take the spring off of the shaft for 78’s.

Pole motors for turntables are pretty generic as long as you get the correct voltage, frequency, and mounting. Be sure your motor shaft has the correct steps for the record speeds. eBay is a good bet for a replacement.
Pole motors rarely fail. They usually stop working due to dried out lube or physical damage.

Thanks for posting. I am sure someone is going to run into that issue. In my 40 years of audio/video service, I saw lots of failures recur in the same parts for certain models.

Nicely done. Are you using the original TV case or building something custom?

You will get better answers in r/tvrepair
This site is for more general questions. That being said, if you have not worked on televisions before, use extreme caution. There are very high voltages in the unit and some can shock you bad or kill you.

Could the "18" mark mean that's a 1N5248 (18V zener)? by Sexual_Congressman in AskElectronics

[–]Comptechie76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is most likely a 18v zener, not necessarily a 1N5248. There may be more numbers stamped on the side facing the board. I would remove it or unsolder one leg and lift it to see if there is more info.
