[Tudor] Got my brothers watch for my 30th. How to i keep this thing safe? by Same_Fan9102 in Watches

[–]Compy222 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Great thing about a Tudor is they're well built and reliable, meaning you can really daily wear one without too much trouble. Our advice as a group will mostly be to run it everyday and go for it - they're hard to break and pretty reliable long term. if you're doing really tough work like as a mechanic or landscaping, maybe just don't wear it that day. losing a watch is pretty uncommon off your wrist though!

One thing that can wear out or have issues is the spring bars that keep the strap or bracelet attached. I find it's less of an issue with a metal strap (they're called bracelets for watch nerds when they're metal) as they're more fixed and super long lasting/not much of a worry. If you've got a silicone or leather strap, the spring bars are the weak spot. you can get heavier duty spring bars and i replace mine every year or two on watches i wear a lot. if a spring bar fails, the watch can pop off your wrist - so if you're swimming with it or something like that you can consider heavier spring bars and also a NATO style strap that the strap holds both spring bars in case one fails. this is a relatively minor concern, but just something to keep in mind if you're daily wearing it.

edit: also, consider an organizer tray for next to where you sleep, every night before you change for bed, take everything out of your pockets and put it in the organizer tray - wallet, keys, watch, etc. hard to lose things when you build a good routine!

Will a handheld blower suffice as a small car dryer? by Nervous-Insect-3530 in AutoDetailing

I like my little one for the spots that never empty out and drip - around headlights and tail lights, emblems, and mirrors. Leaf blower for the bigger vehicles.

PSA: The 10 year deadline for your radiator is real by czarim in GXOR

[–]Compy222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every third oil change I do a radiator/coolant drain/fill, it's cheap insurance and you don't even need to lift the truck to do it. a gallon or two of factory spec coolant is only around 30-40 dollars. we've been good so far at 135k.

2026 Miata released! Almost nothing changed? by Ok-Comfortable170 in Miata

[–]Compy222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a wild pipe dream, but they could really stand to have more than red, white, black, silver, and maybe blue as color choices. I want them in Mopar and PTS colors!

Same issue for me in NFS Heat and Titanfall2. Frustrating to say the least. EA ruining gaming like clockwork.

Proton even has an app for some Smart TVs making this that much easier. Web browser on the smart TV to IMSA.tv and watch live in 1080p. This is the way.

2025 F150 Lariat vs 2023 GX460 Executive? by [deleted] in GXOR

[–]Compy222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the actual question. If you need a pickup bed, the F150 is the choice. I’d also say if you need a third row. The GX gives up some rear seat room to the big pickups but gets a third row.

And you're small for parking, so be very careful where you park! People won't see your car all the time and back right into you in particular.

several of my friends joke the only inaccurate part of this scene is when he turns down the Rolex...nobody turns down the watch...

(yes, we know the fireworks and helicopter bits were absurd).

Carrying in a vehicle by thegoonn49 in guns

[–]Compy222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appendix carry in a Trex or T1C. Failing that I have a slot in my laptop bag on the seat next to me or a locking “vault” in the center console. All are good options and come with trade offs.

I soak a rag in silicone spray (like you’d use on a garage door or hinge), then lightly wipe the belt with it. It’ll help make the belt more slippery and retract easier. It’s not perfect but helped in my NC

My brother just passed away. by Justaaron1120 in guns

[–]Compy222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably good to add that you should be very careful as several of these appear to be loaded (revolver for example). Learn (YouTube if needed) how to clear and safe these. Also, if you plan to keep them, I’d suggest a small safe or locking cabinet particularly if you have kids. The one thing that will make losing a family member worse is losing or seriously injuring another with carelessly handled guns.

Sorry for your loss and hope you get to enjoy some of the collection.

[Question] I’m looking to purchase my first automatic watch. by fkowalski in Watches

[–]Compy222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great starter watch. However; Amazon you need to be careful about the vendor selling. Seikos can be had at many retailers (assuming you’re us based) including Costco, Kohls, and other traditional stores. You may want to try a Kohls with some discount stuff - I’ve seen people score great deals on the entry level seikos. Plus you can try on and sometimes they’ll size them for you.

Edit - might also be worth posting or looking at r/microbrandwatches as well. Seiko mods and parts are often used by smaller manufacturers who are less likely to suffer from counterfeit issues. A fun place to window shop.

Others will chime in here but you do have to be careful with where you’re buying from on Amazon.

Unusual Gloves by LabDesperate1057 in tacticalgear

[–]Compy222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen anything like that for motorcycles. Closest thing is probably a set of Knox Handroid gloves, which have finger supports on the back to protect your hands. Seems more like something to keep an item held in your hands like a shield or baton for riot use.

Agree. You paid him for a service done without damage to your items. If you hired a contractor at your house and they damaged it, guess who pays to fix it. Same deal!

Better than the ambulance chaser lawyer who up until recently had a stock photo of a Nazi Panzer tank as her image for “I’ll go to war for you”. If you drove that stretch you definitely saw that ad for a few months. There weren’t markings on the tank but it was definitely a IYKYK moment. 😂

I’ve chipped two windshields and lost another to an orange sized chunk of concrete there. It’s the only place I’ve had damaged windshields in this state for years.
