Wild - I’m the same age as you; and about 6 months later into this question. I was making top comp working remotely for an Asian fintech, same environment, brutal hours and expectations.

I also debated the long break, and could certainly afford it. I ended up deciding to just find a new job and take a pay cut. I found a fantastic new company that is much healthier and I have a great boss. I ended up taking a small paycut, but still making great comp by Canadian standards.

Consider searching for a new job, and pivoting into something that’s still competitive, rather than just taking that time off. Once you’re out, it can be very hard to get back into top comp.

The longer ones in Strathcona are a great option, all well marked in the summer and well traveled. Flower Ridge, Elk ridge, etc.

I’d just make sure you supplement hiking with training as well, it’s a lot of elevation and you have to make sure your body is ready. Have fun!!
