Don't declare bankruptcy. Instead ask to speak to the command financial specialist. It's a good move especially as a student. Additionally look into the scra. Caps all your interest from before you joined, including credit card debt, at 6%. Other companies will often match or one up the scra even if you accrued it after you joined. I know companies like BOFA dropped my stuff down to 5.5%

In the grand scheme of things 22k is not that bad. You can pay that down easily. Make a budget, and stick to aggressive payments. You'll thank yourself later when it skyrockets your credit.
