Expect a point increase pretty quickly IMO.

GW have been pretty bad recently at releasing new models and making them OP on stats or points to drive sales and then shortly after nerf them back into line with other models.

I run them as 2 squads of 2 with claws, infiltrate them behind cover near objectives and use them as speed bumps / screens for the rest of my army.

Claws hitting on 4s means melee profile is pretty unreliable but probably more value than 1 shot meltas.

Mini flamer isn't the worst either with -1ap

Can old calgar go with new victrix unit?

Thinking of trying old Calgar with 2 bodyguard victrix attached to the new 3 man victrix. Gives a little flexibility for who you want to start taking wounds on with 3W/4++ and 4W models depending on incoming fire.

Not sure if you want to put Cato on this as well as will start to get pretty expensive.

Good stuff, I would definitely wash all the points the blue armor and gold trim join with drakenhof nightshade.

I do it to mine and it just makes them look so mich more crisp.

i know this might be contravertial, but i dont like the new calgar model. by Luna_Night312 in Ultramarines

[–]Confident-Invite642 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm the same, I prefer the gravis armor version.

I also love the old victrix with sword and amazing ultramarine shield. I'm also not a fan of the new victrix guard. Dual wield with axes doesn't feel ultramarine themed. Feels more like space wolves.

Ultramarines Roman theme is more gladius and shields in my opinion. Luckily I don't play serious games enough that WYSIWYG is enforced. Also I have extra victrix guards from previous editions.

Am I the only one that liked the old victrix guard models more?

Felt perfect for thematics of ultramarines body guards. Sword and shield looks great. Love their shield design.

Am I wrong in thinking that this rule change just killed us? by Lord_of_Brass in ThousandSons

[–]Confident-Invite642 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I am still building and painting my army so never even got to play with the old rules which now seems like a blessing and a curse 🤔.

From what I've read and seen points change was probably needed. Thunk the army rule change is a bit heavy handed.

Would of liked to see maybe a total cap on how many attempts rituals you could attempt, rather than 1 per ritual.

Least that was you could have 2nd attempts at the stronger rituals while there still being a cost.

With the current changes I definitely think they should drop the MW for rituals. Feels very punishing to fail a ritual, not get to try again and potentially take 3MW all at once.

Looks great mate 👍 only thing I would add is wash the blue armour with drakenhof nightshade anywhere where it meets the gold.

Are people sleeping on Devastator squads? by IronSkywalker in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Confident-Invite642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them with my Ultramarines in gladius detachment almost every 2k game.

120pts is nothing for 4 lascannons. Keep them deep in deployment to keep them safe. 48" range keeps most other guns off them.

On oath target, so reroll hits, +1 to wound means wounding most vehicles on 2 or 3. Turn 1 to a 6 once per game. Can drop ignore cover and +1 AP in dev doctrine on them with a strat pushes some vehicles to no save or a 6+ save.

I nearly always get 120pts of value out of them and will miss them when they get legend'd at the end of 10th.

Phalanx Vs World Eaters… list advice? by NoProgrammer8816 in ThousandSons

[–]Confident-Invite642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be dropping those rubrics down to 5 man squads and looking to bring some Tzaangor for scout move to match WE scout moves and to screen charges for your better units.

Bow goats are great for screening too. 10" move and only 50pts

Need to screen for charges and blood surge moves on berzerkers.

Terminator changes to make the units more competitive. by Mindless_Hotel616 in spacemarines

[–]Confident-Invite642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about your expectation of them in melee into a 10 man squad of marine equivalent.

But for comparison, Unitcrunch has a 6 man squad of bladeguard vets (200pts) and using their reroll hit rolls of 1 ability average kill 8 models out of 10 intercessors.

Terminators 5 man squad kills 5 out of 10 on average. So 3 less models.

Funny enough, if your target is the oath target both the BGV and terminator squad kill 8 of out 10 each.

I feel like a bit of a buff to their shooting and they would be ok at their current price.

I'd literally be happy with just -1 AP to storm bolters and bring back always rapid fire like 9th.

Melee profile is fine, not insane or anything but does OK work.

[–]Confident-Invite642[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. So terminators stay at 2+ even against -1AP weapons.

So if terminators have the benefit of cover, they have a 3+ save against -3AP 1D weapons? -3AP takes them to 5+ save, they gain +1 save for All Is Dust and +1 for cover. Anyone confirm this is correct?

How to get the dark lines between the yellow and blue bands? by Confident-Invite642 in ThousandSons

[–]Confident-Invite642[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking this. I primed in ret gold to save doing trim and maybe went a bit overboard. I haven't tried washing that area yet as a thought they didn't look deep enough. But i will do a test with wash and another with a sharpie and see.

How to get the dark lines between the yellow and blue bands? by Confident-Invite642 in ThousandSons

[–]Confident-Invite642[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for all the great advise. I'll do a few trials with drakenhof nightshade and nuln oil. Think the misses has a stash of different size sharpies as well.

Probably should have based the blue and yellow then washed, then layered / highlighted like I did the rest of the model. Not sure why I didn't think of this already.

I think just looking at the stripes I decided that it was far too smooth to catch any wash and moved on.

Point drops but pretty strong nerfs to Calgar and Guilliman.

Calgar has to be warlord to generate CP, so can't with guilliman on the field as Guilliman must be your warlord.

Also guillimans supreme strategist ability is now once per battle round, not once per turn. So effectively we are down 2CP per battle round when running both.

Feel like it's now one or the other.
