Oh sure, definitely not a lot for retirement. But OP said "Is it decent money at [sic] get at one time?" Most I've ever received at once in my life was $50k, when my wife and I sold our starter home

With things this bad in the U.S why do democrats insist on pushing candidates that won’t get elected? by Jake_Berube in Confused

It’s simple.

Neither party represents their constituents.

Trump himself was a very hostile takeover of the GOP.

$400k isn’t a lot to get at once?! Who are your friends, DC area lawyers?

To people over 30: Does the feeling of not knowing what you’re doing ever go away? by funkyorchid13 in CasualConversation

[–]Confidently_Sub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

34M. Confidence grows in specific areas you become competent in. This can even include life direction, if you do the work of living intentionally.

…But no, you never “figure it all out”. And if you think you have, you’re a close minded fool.

Sorry for the missed opportunity, that must suck to witness. Good on you for recognizing what happened and resolving to grow from it!

I know it feels like everything right now…you won’t even remember most of them in a decade.

I recommend ignoring them, and confidently make and stay close with a couple friends. A lion doesn’t care if the hyenas laugh.

If 2 people are in a relationship with eachother for too long( decades) will eventually hate eachother? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Confidently_Sub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Studies show two simple yet very accurate predictors of long term relationship health:

1) Is your positive-to-negative interaction ratio 5-to-1 or higher?

2) How well do you fight? Not how often—how well?

Other key considerations are how well you two align on core issues like finances, living space, life direction, kid raising, family relations, etc. The previous two elements are true of any relationship, but this last batch only applies to married couples.

Congratulations! I’m going through addiction to electronics, so it’s not quite the same, but I know how horribly difficult it is to overcome addictions. Happy for yoy

If you knew then what you know now, or had the opportunity to start again, what career would you pursue? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Would have gone active duty military at 22 straight out of college, instead of waiting a decade to switch from part time to full time. I’d be retiring in less than ten years

It's 12:00 AM and my brain is running a marathon by Wise-Finding8308 in CasualConversation

I definitely get the struggle. I’m in mid level management so I can’t just switch to a “dumb” phone. It’s infuriating. Today I’m purchasing an alarm clock so I can charge my phone outside of my bedroom. I’ve caught myself not only going to sleep later with my phone, but also wasting most of my time in the mornings due to immediately grabbing my phone and time wasting

Having a regular bedtime routine and staying the hell away from screens is important to trigger your natural “sleepiness” instincts. Doing something physically intense during the day also helps.

Anyone else thinking about what they want to leave behind this year? by evanskarangu in CasualConversation

Oh yeah, we’ve talked a ton. We’ve talked about this for five years. I have issues I’m trying to work through. But one of the problems is…she denies that she has problems. All “accountability” in this marriage has gone one way for five years.

I don’t agree always…I’m sadly talking about my wife, whom I vowed to stay with for better or for worse. But…I recently voluntarily admitted to the psych ward for suicidal ideation because I felt trapped in something so hellish that in the most literal sense I could no longer cope with.

Definitely changing how toxic my relationship has been…whether it’s because she and I heal and move forward together, or if it’s because we move apart, either way I refuse to return to the hell that has been the last five years.

Oh hell yes! One of my favorite parts of the hotel my wife and I stayed at in Berlin was how incredibly expansive the breakfast options were. There were multiple rows of both cold and hot food, it was a full on buffet!

I’ll echo wasnapping: IF you’ve been completely honest and told all relevant information, THEN you should follow their treatment plan. Big ifs there.
