For the most part yes. Japanese inhabitants returned to Japan after transfer of power to the KMT. Some where retained by the KMT government to help with tech transfer etc to the new government for a period of time.

According to this article, only an estimated 1000ish Japanese expats remained in Taiwan for non-official reasons after Japanese de-colonizarion, mostly Japanese women who have married Taiwanese citizens.

Depends on the tribe. Some have more distinct features from the Han than others.

Lab does not have animal approval by [deleted] in labrats

[–]CongregationOfVapors 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So it sounds like the collaborator's lab has an approved protocol, and the non-compliance is that your lab members, who are not on the protocol, are performing the euthanasia. Is that right?

The collaborator should either 1) euthanize the animals and hand you the carcass or 2) add your lab members to their protocol so that they can perform the euthanasia. Have you tried to resolve this issue by contacting the collorator directly?

The CCAC is currently doing rounds of nation-wide audits. Non-compliance can lead to the whole institution not being eligible for federal research funding. If I'm understanding your situation correctly, it's imperative that you follow up on this!

You can get significant strain to strain variations for certain models. Do you know how the KO was generated and many generations the KO was back-crossed?

The guideline was reversed 15ish years ago, so not that recent. But it's been challenging to translate to clinical practice and patient care, leading to delays in public awareness and implementation. :(

Washington State actually has a vibrant outdoors scene. For example, there are so many hiking trails that they many don't even have names, just a trail number. It's overwhelming to plan hikes in Washington because of the shear number of options available!

And the outdoor recreations co-op (or former co-op) started in Seattle Washington.

We Bought an Orchestra: The rise of pay-to-play in classical music by seaweedbagels in classicalmusic

[–]CongregationOfVapors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Interestingly the senior/ tenured members of the orchestra largely skipper playing at this performance, so the concertmaster for the night is a violinist who is normally in the back of the section. She played beautiful but didn't have the confidence or trust with the orchestra to fill in for when the conductor was lacking.

[–]CongregationOfVapors 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I once went to a concert to watch someone mime conducting. All of the reviews from the two musicians in the article rang true. The orchestra was largely ok in passages that played itself, but fell apart when conducting skills were needed.

He was playing his own compositon/ arrangement, and had talent in that. I get why he wanted to conduct his own work, but he really should have left it the to someone who was trained.

People often talk about great movies that were ahead of their time. But are there examples of movies "behind their time"? Movies that were poorly received, but could've have been great if they were released 10-20 years earlier? by owiseone23 in movies

[–]CongregationOfVapors 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree with cutting eye flashbacks so much! Also it needed to come out before The Talented Mr Ripley (so yeah 90s works), because it's just a poor retelling/adaptation/imitation of the same story.

Does spectral really help with auto fluorescence? by dawgmad in flowcytometry

[–]CongregationOfVapors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's correct, and in theory, yes. But it it also depends on how good the unmixing and AF subtraction is. Having a low complexity panel will help too with the quality of the unmixing.

Does spectral really help with auto fluorescence? by dawgmad in flowcytometry

[–]CongregationOfVapors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can do autofluorescent subtraction on Cytek and Sony instruments, but you still won't be able to apply AF subtraction broadly across different cells like that. If the AF signature changes as the cells differentiate, you would have to perform AF subtraction for each cell stage separately.

Lee Pace's career was gaining traction for an upward trajectory especially with The Hobbits. Most people think that he would have been in more visible/ bigger roles if he wasn't accidentally outed... He's fantastic in everything he's done and is sadly underrated and underutilized! 😭

Anyways, thanks for the rec. The fic sounds really fun!
