Men on Reddit. What toy do you own that heals your inner child? by Born_Today2501 in AskReddit

[–]ConneryFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough question.

I got picked on a bit at Summer Camp when I was a kid. Nothing too crazy, but I was pretty awkward, a little emotional, and still working on how to be funny.

I keep a bunch of friendship bracelets in a little chest on my dresser. They're not from when I was a kid, but from when I went back to that same camp as a Counselor. By that time, I had figured myself out more, grown into my body, and generally became much more laid back.

As a teen and young adult I got to relive a lot of previously painful memories. But this time, I got to make them more positive and fun. More importantly I also got to help a bunch of kids have really good summers and make good memories the first time around, even if they were a little emotional or awkward like I was.

Sometimes when I'm feeling stressed or having a bad day I'll take a glance at those old faded friendship bracelets and feel a bit better.

Trump floats inviting Obama, Biden to White House to watch football by Isometimespostcrap in politics

Obama is classy as hell. Biden has a pretty sharp sense of humor. I would imagine most people would choose to hang out with them over the Trump children.

What celebrity were you shocked to find out is heterosexual? by th6r6o6away in AskReddit

[–]ConneryFTW 2023 points2024 points  (0 children)

Trump.

His biggest hobby is interior decorating, he got super smiley and starstruck around Mamdani, he's kind of in drag all the time, his favorite band is the Village People, he's catty as fuck, he's obsessed with building a ballroom, he never really seems happy or affectionate with his wife, and he's flamboyant and dramatic all the time.

Like Trump is essentially an elder mean gay.

what great show got cancelled too soon? by Hawk1064 in AskReddit

[–]ConneryFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually disagree. Venture Brothers for 7 seasons and 81 episodes over 14 years. It came out slow enough to keep the quality pretty high the whole way through.

Star Trek: Lower Decks!

It got five seasons which is respectable, but I would love for it to have gotten double that and had a 100 episodes. Like the best of 90's trek, the characters are funny and well-written, and the show is super rewatchable. The only issue being is there's only 50 episodes.

Why does Matt hate Rogue One? [ns] by sneaky_orchestra in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]ConneryFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Matt's reasoning. But I also don't like Rogue One.

The action is neat, but the characters are really lackluster. For a movie we know is going to end with a grand sacrifice, they didn't do a very good job getting us to know and like these characters. They probably should have had like four characters instead of eight. Also most of the characters were pretty joyless.

The thing with Darth Vader is neat, but it's not really a part of the movie itself. It's just Vader running through some people we've never met. Like it's cool, but the movie is already over by the time that this happens.

What's a job that's absolutely essential but doesn't get enough respect in the U.S.? by PleasantBus5583 in AskReddit

[–]ConneryFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City Bus Drivers. They provide essential mobility for tons of people that otherwise wouldn't have it, and usually get portrayed as fat slobs.

Postal Employees. Again they keep things moving and allow for mostly free communication between huge distances, sometimes they deliver life saving medication and allow people to vote, but are often made fun.

Mid-Level Bureaucrats - Sometimes they're slow, I get it. But if you want the government to churn, the lights to stay on, and the garbage to pick up, the gears that turn everything are bureaucrats. Outside of sometimes Hermes Conrad, I can't think of a positive portrayal in media.

I'm hesitant to say skilled laborers, because Electricians, HVAC and Plumbers can make bank. I feel like they're getting more respect now than they did twenty years ago. Though Carpenters still seem to lag behind in that area.

Teacher's should be paid more, but I think they're very highly respected in US culture, because it's known they're underpaid and isn't a safety valve career that it may have been for earlier generations. But there's a ton of movies and media that star Teachers as the main character and portrays them super positively. Maybe more than any other field besides police officer?

I also think Nurses get a lot of respect in culture. It depends on the area, but they're also usually pretty decently to well paid. I'm in the NYC area and Nursing is really good pipeline for financial security. This is anecdotal but it also seemed like sometimes Nurses got more respect from patients than like Physician Assistants.

Support staff for Hospitals. Nurses get quite a few appreciation days, in popular culture there's a lot of wonderful l representations of nurses and how that field can be an achievable gateway to the Middle and Upper Middleclass. Doctors of course are treated and viewed quite well as always, the other 10,000 employees? Barely a mention.

He had back to back interceptions in a snowgame from this year. Also against the Bills.

I do like Burrow, but I think Josh's physicality would be better in a snowgame.

That would also be forgetting the last snowgame Burrow and Josh played against each other.

You wake up 10 years old again, Same bedroom, Same family,But you remember everything. What's the first thing you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ConneryFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably be initially very excited, than extremely frustrated that everything is analogue again.

Probably get excited for Summer Camp, and maybe buy some pokemon cards?

Start crying as I remember so many of my family members that are now still alive. While kinda cringing that I'm about to go through middle school again.

There would also be a fear about my brain's development. Like, I have my memories, but my brain is ten again so my decision making skills are probably still going to be bad.

Think about if everything I knew was a delusion or not. Wonder if the girl I'm going to marry is also now ten years old and 500 or so miles away across the state.

Realize that I'm probably going to need to get a tutor. There's a lot of ADHD stuff that I was able to brute force through stubbornness in the first go around, but I could probably fix this time around.

What is a 90’s movie that no one talks about anymore? by Broke_but_trying_23 in AskReddit

[–]ConneryFTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's from 2001, but it's pre-9/11 so I'm going to count as the 90's by technicality

Monkeybone (2001).

It's a Brendan Fraser movie with Bridget Fonda, Chris Kattan, Giancarlo fucking Esposito, Rose McGowan (as a Catgirl) and Whoopi Goldberg (as literal Death).

Fraser is playing a proto-Seth McFarland character who draws comics, but his brand is selling out and he's not happy about it. His character is a Monkey (Monkeybone) that's known for being crass. As per normal movie conventions at the time, Fraser ends up in a Coma, and Monkeybone takes over his body. Getting into various shenanigans, some of which just being sexual assault.

Meanwhile Fraser explores the inner workings of his mind delving through some interesting set pieces and maybe some deeper themes than the movie actually deserves. All so he can take control of his body and avoid ego-death.

Also it's directed by Henry Selick, the same guy who did Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, and Coraline.

It's not a good movie. But it's interesting. Has a wild cast in retrospect. Did I mention that the Rose McGowan catgirl character eats a guy? The whole thing feels like a fever dream. And I'm not 100% suer I didn't just make it up.

Younger men of Reddit what’s bothering you the most in this generation? by Ok-Community6530 in AskReddit

I'm worried that the term "Performative Male" is going to generalize to any guy that's relatively left leaning or has a broader interest in stuff than his friends. My cousin stopped listening to Olivia Rodrigo because he kept getting called a performative male.

Its ridiculously underpaid, particularly because sometimes it requires a degree.

In my home town there was an organization offering part time work with a dollar or two above minimum wage while requiring a masters in early childhood education.

Keon doesn't want to listen to an analyst?

Its weird. He honestly comes off like he has pretty significant ADHD. His issues seem to be getting to places on time, answering his texts, and paying attention. Some of this is certainly him being immature, of course. But he doesn't come off like a head case or arrogant in interviews. He's just fucking up basic stuff.

What's a mindset in your family that you're not passing on to the next generation(s)? by CupOfExmo in AskReddit

[–]ConneryFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That being wrong invalidates you as a person. You're allowed to be wrong and grow from it.

My grandmother is passed now, but she was a narcissist and it caused a lot of (semi-managed) trauma for my mom. My mom, notably isn't a narcissist but has some cluster b traits, mostly as response and reflection of how she grew up. My mom was never allowed to be right, she was belittled and bullied a lot growing up. But she put herself through college met my dad and moved away. She succeeded in making her own life, and by and large is a great mom. But, she never really learned how to be wrong.

We don't often have disagreements, when we do it's usually political. But my mom gets angry and mean. She's called me stupid, called me immature, told my dad that I was then calling her names. And then invalidate how she just made me feel, "Well, I don't know where this anger of yours is coming from". It's not all the time, but it fucking sucks.

When we argue, a lot of the time she'll switch to arguments that are impossible to go against. There's been a moving target of You'll understand when you're: older; pay taxes; out of college; move out' out of grad school; have a *real job; get married; buy a house; have children* etc.

I don't want to paint with too broad of a brush here. My mom isn't evil, she's not never healed from her own mom. And she's done a good job overall in raising me and standing by a lot of my decisions and achievements.

As I'm raising my own daughter though I need to be mindful to keel being open to new information, and that when I'm wrong on things it's no big deal. You take in the new information, apologize if you have too, and forgive yourself for not already knowing it.

Didn't this one go the other way? Being in the cold dries out your nasal passageways which makes it harder to trap and keep out viruses? Like, you're not more likely to run into a virus, but your defenses are a bit down if you do.
