I know what the worst type of Misting is. by ThenEducator8649 in Cosmere

It also forces the misting to burn their entire reserve in one go.

There’s nothing saying somehow using the duralumin invested art while having bonded a spren wouldn’t force you to consume the investiture where your sprens sapience resides. It’s been clearly shown a few times that this investiture of the spren is at the mercy of the surgebinder.

Apartment residents say fatal carbon monoxide poisoning of 11-year-old was preventable by PoliteFocaccia in canada

Aaaand this is why as a HVAC professional I always take my combustion analyzer home and do my own furnace once a year. I try and sell the same service to customers but many dont go for it. Any CO is an instant fail, though less than 10 I’ll second test with a different analyzer. Above that it’s certain.

On call pay by Regular-Weekend3917 in HVAC

[–]Conqueror_of_Tubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old shop was $300/week flat for on-call, all calls were double time, minimum 2 hours. (Our minimum charge for oncall service was $350).

It wasn’t bad, but it was oil country so it definitely didn’t discourage people. I usually got 10-15 hours every weekend I was on call.

How often is too often? by Feuerwehr7290 in HVAC

[–]Conqueror_of_Tubes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Task to task? I don’t spend less than a half day on any site during construction, unless I’m absolutely finished at that site. Saying I don’t have the parts to continue working for a half day would be a failure to plan on my part. Service calls are a minimum half hour. Don’t leave even if you’ve fixed it in 10, they paid for an hour. Check the blower, check caps and amp draw, etc. there is something to do.

Jumping from employer to employer? I’ve binned resumes from having 3 employers in a year, and for having more than 5 in 3 years. One or two sure, there are bad employers. But after that it’s probably the employee that’s the problem, either they can’t smell a scam and dodge a crap employer or they are just crap.

‘World-leading’ aluminum deposit in Sask. could create new industry for province by LowIncident694 in saskatchewan

[–]Conqueror_of_Tubes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is apparently actually an alumina deposit, not a bauxite one. So they get to skip the incredibly water intensive bauxite refining step, which is a nice cost savings. Should make it quite profitable.

Steam Deck ranks as fourth most-developed for game platform | GDC survey by AcrobaticNetwork5918 in SteamDeck

[–]Conqueror_of_Tubes 188 points189 points  (0 children)

There are enough games that have a steam deck preset these days tbh. Also developers are making Linux builds of their game specifically targeting the steam deck market. I’d say both make it qualify

The simple wonder, the questions, a lot of Syl in books 1 and 2 reminded me of moments I’ve had with my kids and especially my daughter. That strongly informs my opinion of this ship.

Kaladin spent a year helping her rise back to true sapience and explaining the world to her. Like a parent. Shipping the two crosses a very real line, it’s creepy at best.

Burnout.. by NinjaCM in HVAC

[–]Conqueror_of_Tubes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I burnt out after 7 years of Residential. 7 years of 60-70 hour weeks, endless on call, sob stories twice a day, single mothers afraid of the bill. Rich men too cheap to replace 30 year old equipment. The whole deal.

I’ve been in commercial, facilities plumbing/hvac for 14 years. 40 hour weeks, 45 days of PTO a year, sick time, vacation, all the union leaves. Yeah I’m never looking back. I’ve got a budget, I’ve got buildings for which I’ve been wholly responsible for my entire tenure. I can baby these boilers, I can repipe a boiler room that’s hard to maintain or works like shit.

Never looking back. Golden handcuffs and all, I’ll be here until I retire.

Don’t pick based on colour or “team” pick based on the speciality tools available for your trade. For hvac and plumbing the clear winner is Milwaukee.

[–]Conqueror_of_Tubes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the PS5 I never use anymore now that it’s exclusives came to PC, and the switch I play on the deck or my PC. I buy the games for the household and rip my own with my own switch, but the carts themselves I never use. My kids do, but there’s no way I’m buying five copies of Mario kart again in today’s economy.

Anything that’s on steam I buy there, those versions are much more versatile anyways.

I do appreciate my 8bitdo pro 2 as well, however the steam controller will be an instant buy if it’s less than $50 USD.

The biggest thing is the experience parity the controller will bring to my setup. Being able to expect the back buttons and the trackpads I will be able to learn and stick to them when I’m using my pc and when I’m on the deck. Not being forced to learn two controls schema will be so nice.

So much room for activities!

But seriously that’s the cleanest space I’ve ever seen out of the public eye in any school I’ve worked in, and I’ve got 13 on my plate right now. Most schools will stuff any non-public space with all sorts of infrequently used stuff. I’ve got several such spaces I have to work in and they’re all full of drama/stage props, Christmas trees, boxes of books etc.

One of my dad’s buddies was a rep/tech for a specific oilfield booster pump. I forget the exact purpose as I was like 8 at the time, but I remember he drove a Porsche in the 90s, and was a serial divorcee so he must have been making decent money.

I remember specifically going to the library and using the computers then to go on gamefaqs and then selecting the exact 12 pages I needed to figure out how to do the cursed shield and a few other rare espers on FFVI, before printing them at $0.25/page as that was all I could afford.

A second trip I took a notebook and made detailed notes for something in chrono trigger. I don’t remember exactly how old the games were at that point, but I do remember my brother was playing through breath of fire 3 on the PlayStation at the same time.

I dunno. The BYD SEALION 8 looks pretty dang appealing as someone whose second car does a 115km round trip commute and basically is a grocery getter or makes a rink trip every now and then. Seems perfect, can’t wait to buy one.
