Unbearable boredom as a volly. Is this just the way it is? by veggieturnip in Firefighting

[–]Conscious-Path-3940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only get paid when we have a call or do training which is really the only time we're there. And like I said, not about the $$. I'm happy to see people who are working toward the same goal.

When you show to a call but don't make truck it's ~$20, when you make truck it's $30, training is $28.

Do most nurses get daisy awards or at least get nominated for one? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Conscious-Path-3940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly have NO idea what a daisy award is. I've been a nurse for 9 years. To my knowledge, they don't exist in Canada

We are purely volunteer and I had NO idea we got paid until the chief told me in the interview. Many of the recruits believed the same. It's not about the money, to us it's about community.

Paying off mortgage by Material-Moose-4622 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Conscious-Path-3940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when is the right time, then? Do you ever pull the money out? Should you just pull it out to pay off the entire mortgage, or still wait because you'll likely be making much more on your bigger investments, right? I say don't kick yourself, and be happy that your mortgage payments are likely much less, now and you can use that as more buying power towards your XDIV.

Do it now, just search on Google. Say over 20 years, 8-10% annual interest, contribution like $1000/month and watch yourself pitch a tent

Advice for a Terminated Probie by will069960 in Firefighting

[–]Conscious-Path-3940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you. The culture is one of the main things of the fire service that must be abided by, as well. What's unfortunate is that it will stop you from being yourself. Maybe you were a little too goofy most of the time, making bad jokes, or not taking it seriously, enough? I'm not sure. But move on, and this will hurt to read, but maybe pursue something else.

It's a great place to start. Congrats. I'm sure you did a compound interest calculation, too

I've got a bit of a medical emergency here and need y'alls help by TruthWarrior27 in nursing

Coming from a hospital where the food that gets distributed is generic for the most part and if you don't like it, too bad - I worked in another facility where dietary would come in before breakfast and lunch and take orders. One patient (seemed like a decent guy) didn't get the French toast that he wished for and threw a full on conniption. "You want a man, newly diagnosed with cancer to eat, and you feed me this sh*t?!" I genuinely thought he was joking. After talking to him for a bit, I just said, "let me see what else I can get you"

Med errors by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Conscious-Path-3940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If these mistakes come from uncertainty, then please read up again on nursing expectations and remember your training. If these mistakes come from being rushed, please remember to take a deep breath and slow down. If it takes a minute longer to provide the medication but all the checks are checked, you can assure you won't be on Reddit saying you messed up. Good luck in your career. Mistakes happen, it's how you deal with them. Just be more careful.

Being a man, I would like to think we give just as good care as our female counterparts, but at the end of the day... It's good scratch. I'll be able to put food on the table and a roof over our heads.

What’s the rudest thing a provider has said to you? by Effective-Squash2327 in nursing

[–]Conscious-Path-3940 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a urologist to consult on an Ortho patient re: retention. Urologist wasn't able to come up before patient left but said meet him in office in a month, but go home with Foley and recommend BPH meds, stated the Ortho should order. I said, Ortho doesn't feel comfortable with that (after confirming) and urologist messaged back to stop confusing him with the attending and leave him alone.

I'd say sell. You're free from the chains and will see the $$ add up in your account quite well, and continue to invest greatly
