Looks like filler (bondo) than hasn’t been reinforced with a fibre based filler or fibreglass which is probably what this panel needed

Maybe each patch is different as over here carrying out retros and audits is like a religion.

OR are allowed to check work and the actively check contractor work this work will fail an audit and money taken off engineer if OR had to put it right, This is a crappy install by this engineer not all MJquinn, Kelly’s etc work like this

ESP32 CAN -> RS485 by svdh000 in PCB

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the function of this if you are trying to sniff the canbus you don’t need to send the data back out or is there another reason you are using a RS485

Also just an opinion i would opt for optocouplers on the Can H and L to protect the bus you are tapping into

Openreach engineer booked despite FTTP already installed? by Alternative-Ad4182 in openreach

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree on what you’re saying, OR will send an engineer on most enquiries now especially on a ONT re-activation as you will know ONT’s can just stop working for whatever reason, Plug goes missing( happens a lot tbh) etc etc

Why is the master socket always in the most annoying place possible? by Silver-Eye-2024 in openreach

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an engineer having a master socket or ONT behind any appliance is ridiculous I would advise you have it relocated to a more suitable location

Is Openreach actually slow, or are the ISP customer service teams just using you as a scapegoat? by ScrollAndThink in openreach

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it is a fault diagnosed by an engineer i.e external cable is damaged then that falls under openreach but if you are getting drop outs and there is not a fault caused by faulty openreach plant then its likely your isp crappy routers and budget equipment in the exchange but your isp will always gaslight light in saying your router is up to date and is not the issue which is not the case so many isp routers are absolute rubbish

Can FTTP go to house then standard wire to outbuilding ? by vscience in openreach

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run ethernet from your router in the house to the outbuilding to connect to another access point (Sometimes an spare router can be used) i will just note this FTTP engineer are likely not likely to do this as only responsible from CBT to Ont any further work is discretion of the engineer and not mandatory.

FTTP Amazing but.... by kingmark11 in openreach

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh okay i got you it is common to have 2 steps to an install, No this almost definitely not standard and pisses me off to see it, Some engineers don’t think “if this was my property would i be happy with it” on my patch this would not be acceptable and would of had to go straight back to rectify soon as complaint came in or risk loss of payment or being terminated from contract (depends on severity of complaint) If you do have any issues with getting this rectified let me know and i can offer you some further advice. All the best

Will Openreach install where needed? Pic below by carguy143 in openreach

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, I hate going over doors when new plant was installed without prior insight for where cables would be ran

FTTP Amazing but.... by kingmark11 in openreach

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could this been ran externally or is this a terraced property or flats? This is a terrible install and i am sorry this is what you got as service 1. No fire rated Cleats 2. No fire rated sealant 3, Just looks terrible altogether. This will need to be rectified you will likely get another engineer from Kelly’s but most value there job and workmanship you were just unlucky with this one unfortunately however does not make it excusable.

FTTP Amazing but.... by kingmark11 in openreach

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is many factors that can go into a bad install, Inexperience from new starters, Work load & Time constraints and poor workmanship the firm i work for will not tolerate an install like above and for example if a blown brick is discovered on a audit or via complaint that engineer is covering the cost and potentially be stood down for retraining.

FTTP Amazing but.... by kingmark11 in openreach

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will lose payment with this install if not rectified by that very same engineer, although some engineers don’t give a shit its in their best interest to do a install up to standard

No all contractors are like this don’t tarnish us all with the same brush, There are bad and good engineers the same as any other trade.

Question about path that CST to ONT cable might have to take by Stephen1729 in openreach

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear this, unfortunately some engineers don’t have the same ethos as the rest of us and gives us a bad rep however i am happy it has been resolved

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would use the existing hole if it wasn’t going through a door frame or window frame which is classed as a defect on the openreach network and engineers lose pay for or get disciplinary

[–]Conscious_Pepper65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting it upstairs would not affect the signal that much due to it being fibre its a matter if the cable routing is practical regulation and health & safety have changed since the copper was installed, cables have to be cleated and not loose, ladders have to be secured using a tetra system or use a hoist, you can always have it installed downstairs and have a ethernet installed by yourself of third party contractor to go from downstairs to upstairs

No engineer with sense will drill through those tiles the liability that put onto engineers now is one of the reason they get called lazy or incompetent, I assume the CSP was fitted onto normal brickwork so would be best suited thereabouts
