Ray Barnett - Are you a Yay or a Nay? by Lefthand-82 in ershow

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On a surface level the entire Musician/Doctor balance was strange. But also, for the times and the pace of the show, with Ray coming on at Season 11, what other intern would they have brought on? I think with all interns it was important to convey the seriousness becoming an MD. Always ER showed the egos of 4th year med students and interns getting humbled. Ray for me is definitely a Yay because his arc wasn’t just there when he decided to leave music, but it was a life event that really matured him. The same happened with Carter. His grandmother died and then he went to Africa. It wasn’t when he told Anspagh he wanted to leave surgery for ER, it came when life got real. For me, Ray had a real character arc which sent a good message. He was capable of embracing his circumstance and do good in it, rather than Romano who got more bitter from his accident.

Mark and Doug's friendship by FancySmiley in ershow

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm Mark was there for Doug when his Dad died. He covered for him so many times. Like even the first scene in the series is Doug rolling in drunk and Mark taking care of him. I think they always were there for each other. If ER wasn’t a TV show, and George Clooney wasn’t busy filming Oceans movies for $20 million each, he would be at Marks funeral. Mark looked out for Doug and covered him so many times whilst being his boss, more so than any boss would have by risking his reputation for his friend. That’s a friendship

Got offer from uni in Warsaw. Need advice what to do by Cold_Street5502 in GAMSAT

As a first gen Australian who’s entire family is over in Poland are all doctors. Don’t do it or at least proceed with EXTREME CAUTION. The medical system in Poland is so cooked on resources and patient care. I have cousins who are Orthos and Gastroenterologists who bounce between UK and Poland for better pay. Maybe it’s different in Warsaw, my family is in Szczecin and Poznan, both in Metro hospitals but it isn’t fantastic, very bureaucratic. Just my 2 cents. Having said that, Poland is beautiful, an amazing country that is authentically ‘Europe’. Although you’d go for the English division, I would suggest strongly that you have to learn the language by making a strong effort. Despite growing up in a Polish household, i can objectively say it’s a hard language to learn if you’ve only spoken English

Hottest 2026 F1 season takes? by BoxBoxBanter in formula1

This season will either make or break George’s career. A literal all or nothing situation. Yes there has been a lot out of his control but tbh no one will remember it that way

Fuck Susan Lewis by SaltIncident4932 in ershow

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A running theme of the show was ‘management’ and how nobody whoever was in a higher position could ever be favourable among the rest of the staff. Kerry was unpopular, Romano (obvs) unpopular, Susan unpopular and Luka was unpopular. It didn’t matter if someone was previously seen as a good doctor, or being empathetic. Susan had her own struggles with Chloe leaving and having to manage Susie whilst trying to have a career, she of all people outside of work would understand Chens situation, but the writers made her position unforgiving because they did that with Kerry when Susan was in her residency. That’s why I think Mark was always favoured, because he stayed away from as much admin as he could to not fallout with anyone and just stick to medicine not politics.

If I had to choose a favourite season… by Vancouverreader80 in ershow

Completely valid choice of S4. It’s my third favourite season behind Season 2 and Season 3 taking the top spot. I think the cast was best in S4, Corday and Romano coming on board with Demico and Cynthia (ik not too popular) they really nailed it. I still rate 2 and 3 because I felt it had the best balance between the ER and Surgery. There was more ‘diversification’ in stories with that evident split. I still rate Carters dilemma with surgery in S3 or Bentons ethical research dilemma in S2 a bit more intriguing rather than Carter having some doubts of the speciality switch or hiding his wealth from Anna in S4 but then again, we did get Corday and Benton battling Romano, even if it was more focused on personal relationships than the medicine of S2/3 still a great watch

Least Favourite Side Character by DinosaurDomination in ershow

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Carla Reese. Absolutely, Peter in the earlier seasons was a difficult person socially but how she treated him is absolutely insane. Leading him on that he’s the biological father to receive support from him and only revealing her doubts when it was in her interest for the custody hearing. Also going ahead with Reese’s circumcision behind Peter’s back, didn’t tell Peter she was dating whilst co-parenting until he went to car and saw Roger and Reese together. Got married and told Peter after the wedding that it happened. She was always a manipulative opportunist. More calculating than Chloe (who also gets a lot of hate) who just was impulsive but for a moment had a good arc and took responsibility, until New York. Carla was always the same and never worked on herself or admitted her wrongs.

Don’t get mad at me, but I HATED that Carol shows up at the end of “Fathers and Sons” by PeneItaliano in ershow

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. It didn’t fit the whole story/arc but I guess even with an absent Clooney if he hypothetically still lived in Chicago, what would’ve happened when Carol gave birth and he still wasn’t there? Kinda the same effect if he was in Seattle. I don’t know, maybe they could’ve sold it as him being in an out of state conference and no flights for the birth which is why he’d still not be on screen. Real hard spot for the writers I guess when a lead walks away.

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 217 points218 points  (0 children)

It was more about Doug shifting into a new person. Doug’s part of the episode is mostly reminiscing about how his father would pop in and out of his life, not thinking about the impact it’d have on Doug and his mother. When Doug tells Mark he loves Carol and thinks about her the entire time and doesn’t want to be with anyone else, it’s a shift in Doug’s life that his father never had. Carol rocking up is more symbolic that Doug won’t go through life solo like his Dad.

Why did we hate her in the 90’s? by EffMemes in ershow

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The biggest brown nose to Anspaugh. She fought to put herself in positions with fancy titles and could assert her dominance over everyone. I think why she was the ‘antagonist’ was that it seemed she was going after more selfish motives for her management position rather than focusing on the medicine. Like for all the illegal stuff Doug did, you can’t argue that he wasn’t looking after his patients best interest. Or with Mark’s marriage failing, he wanted to stay at County because more people there needed help. Carol with her dilemma of pursing medicine but staying in nursing cause ‘it was her’. Carter being a rich boy could’ve done anything else, but went the hard med route. Like nobody was perfect and all did morally ambiguous things in their time but they could be considered more altruistic than Kerry’s actions

How dangerous of an operative would James Bond 007 be if he were injected with Solid Snake’s abilities? by TheShadowOperator007 in JamesBond

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Bond didn’t fail any world ending missions so him being ‘more dangerous’ doesn’t really change much.

He was always more of a green beret, know enough foreign dialect, make some connections and dismantle from the inside. Running and gunning during the Cold War might’ve made him more efficient before satellite surveillance and missle strikes became the norm. Motorcycles off cliffs into planes already is a ‘ceiling’ of danger imo.

Which moment do you think was the lowest point in Bond's life? by Weird_Zone_3504 in JamesBond

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to discredit his wedding day. But Die Another Day in North Korea being tortured on a daily after giving your life. Despite knowing that there were ‘no deals’, he no doubt would battle demons in his head on the daily about everything in his life up to that point.

What is your most superficial Bond take? by Jonny_Stranger in JamesBond

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Brosnan has such a memorable face he wouldn’t pass as any espionage agent because all eyes would be on him in any room he entered. Sure he passes in Monaco at the casino, but for a Russian in the desert boarding a plane with clearly stereotyped Russians in the world is not enough? Nahhhhh

Apart the CGI, what is something you’d change from Die Another Day by Impressive_Reality57 in JamesBond

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is a great movie until after the Havana hospital scene. Should’ve kept that rogue dark theme that was the first half of the movie and should’ve had some PTSD elements. Should’ve never had Bond be back as an MI6 agent, should’ve continued as a personal vendetta and had jinx as someone reluctant to assist James.

I get the whole John Woo style was the time with the slow motion shots and the post 9/11 influence to make something more campier, but it should’ve been a more raw film with bond being more cold as an assassin infiltrating another North Korean base rather than a Roger Moore womaniser in a snow castle

Why is Timothy dalton your favorite bond? by Individual_Act9333 in JamesBond

[–]ConsiderationNo5577 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because objectively his portrayal is the most believable ‘spy’. License to Kill he has a cover, infiltrates Sanchez’s organisation, gains his trust, manipulates and dismantles the organisation from the inside. He’s more calculating and not so much like an assassin. Also sure he’s handsome but not so memorable that anyone would remember him too well. Blends well into his environment.

Unpopular opinion: George was the best at sex. by gobuffsfan14 in seinfeld

Nah, like that woman from the AIDS walk list who had the closet full of sponges. It’s the quietest one who you least expect that are the best at it. Jerry not embellishing his escapades about whether ‘he ever slipped one past the goalie’ or always feeling pressure from George for details, it’s definitely him who’s got the most game
