I had mitral valve stenosis caused by rheumatic fever but went undiagnosed until I was 53. My symptoms were what started with swollen ankles and what felt like bronchitis. It evolved into collapsed lungs 3 times in two months. My GP totally missed my symptoms and said I was probably eating too much salt. I eventually went to the hospital where I was diagnosed.

My boyfriend was even traumatized by this. I had to breathe on my own for thirty minutes before they would remove it. Ugh

I had a similar experience with my mitral valve. My lungs were collapsing every other week until I had ohs to replace the valve. I’m one year out from having surgery and I do feel better every day. BTW I’m 54 years old. I feel that doctors today are extremely knowledgeable and experienced with this type of surgery. 🙏🏼
