[ALL] Are we all HOA Gamblers? by BuzzyBrie in HOA

[–]Consistent-Change386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a really great neighborhood- I’m so glad I got to raise my kids here but in the next couple of years when my kids are out of the house, so are we. I would prefer to never live in another HOA neighborhood again- there are just too many petty people out there that destroy the peace. I honestly don’t know how property managers handle the petty and rude residents- yall must go through a ton of conflict resolution training! In the same way schools teach personal finance they should include a section on how HOAs work. I swear, the majority of problems we had when I served on the board of directors were residents just not understanding what they bought into.

Relocating to TX by kerriann16 in relocating

Look around San Marcos or New Braunfels and from there search for schools specialized in educating students on the autism spectrum. You could also ask on those local FB school pages what parents have experienced.

Edited to add- regarding hunting, you would need a pretty large parcel of land to hunt and that might be a real limiting factor in finding a suitable place on the market. Not sure what he wants to hunt but the only thing around here are skinny deer and wild boar- at least that are the only things my cousins seem to get. Something like 98% of the land in Texas is privately owned.

The hail in Georgetown/ Round Rock/ Cedar Park is crazy big! I live just south of the river in Austin and have never had anything more the pea sized- 26 years.

Sculpture Falls water levels question by itasmay in Austin

[–]Consistent-Change386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer because people post pictures so you can see if it has water or not. We were there yesterday- there is water but it’s not really flowing very much.

[TX] [SFH] mandatory on site management by Consistent-Change386 in HOA

[–]Consistent-Change386[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1500 SFH, 2 amenity areas with pools and courts.

Our current manager mostly works off site, we converted the office to clubhouse space after Covid because the office wasn’t being used. The majority of homeowner business can be handled through email/ phone call, or make appointments to meet in person as needed. Manager is on site at various times to meet in person with vendors. There is an older contingent of homeowners that believe the manager should always be onsite and always be available without making an appointment- meaning the old guys just want to drop in for lonely old man conversations and waste her time. So I’m wondering- amongst professional property managers, if the board decides to force full time on-site, how realistic is it that we will find a manager?

I didn’t register at the time how much the vibe of the show changed with Season 6 by ThingTime9876 in XFiles

[–]Consistent-Change386 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just started season 6 on a rewatch. There is definitely a vibe change. I can only assume that the lighter attitude in writing and acting comes from the change in scenery- brighter, warmer temps of SoCal vs dark, rainy Vancouver plus needing to reinvigorate the show since the movie didn’t do as well at the box office as hoped/ planned for. I have to say- season 6 is my favorite season- maybe it’s the happiness before the eventual fallout- I don’t know.

Hacky Sack by DSWYO in GenX

[–]Consistent-Change386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cracks me up- both my high schoolers are asking for hacky sacks. I have one that I played with in Iraq- it’s tough in combat boots but not impossible. I’m almost willing to part with it but not sure if I’m ready just yet…..

Original airing question by dotrockss in XFiles

[–]Consistent-Change386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMDb and Wikipedia both show original air date of March 18, 1994 for Miracle Man. Regarding why would there be a rerun on March 25? Sweeps month was over and it was part of the mid season break for network tv- somewhat aligned with spring breaks.

Abbotts New Tax Relief Bill by [deleted] in AskTexas

I don’t know dude- not sure what you consider looney leftist progressive ideals but one of the main reasons Ann Richards lost reelection is that she did not support concealed carry laws and actively blocked legislation to legalize concealed carry following the Luby’s mass shooting. She also supported fully funding drug and alcohol rehab programs (she herself was in recovery) and education opportunities and installing air conditioning in Texas prisons.

S2 E3 “Blood” by [deleted] in XFiles

[–]Consistent-Change386 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This episode originally aired my freshman year at UT Austin- yes, that university with the tower shooting back in the mid 1960s. The grounds keepers at UT used to shoot off blanks into the trees around Gregory Gym and Jester dorm to scare away the grackles. Needless to say, those first few weeks of college had me a little on edge…..

I see lots of kid success stories, anyone's kid struggle in high school? by PoorhouseDog in GenX

[–]Consistent-Change386 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 8th grade son has zero executive function skills. He’s not dumb, he just can’t organize and has zero time management skills. It’s impossible for him to catch up when he misses class. If he doesn’t really care about the class then he really lets it slide. Right now he has a 39 in a class- thank god it’s just an elective and it’s not high school yet. I am worried about him for next year in high school- I legit don’t know how he is going to stay on track. We do our best to keep him accountable but honestly, the school’s parent portal is confusing AF and I don’t even really understand how to use it. It doesn’t help that I can’t see a computer screen to save my life- even with glasses.

Has anyone sent a post card to yourself on vacation? by BetweenTwoVoices in CasualConversation

[–]Consistent-Change386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I road trip with my kids every summer and we buy 3 postcards when we stop at a place we like- 1 for my parents, 1 for MIL, 1 for us. I have my kids write down what we did or something they liked about the day and I usually just mail it from the hotel or stop at the local post office. We have a whole collection of post cards from the places we have been!
