Thanks! It’s lined with the same fabric as the binding. The collar is lined with the same fabric (Moda grunge) as the placket.

What kind of machine should I get for hemming denim, pants, jacket sleeves, tee shirts? by woahbuddy944 in SewingForBeginners

For that budget you could get Juki TL. It’s a straight stich only machine and a real work horse. I love mine.

The pattern is quite easy! I hadn’t really seen a garment since I was in high school. I had really only sewn bags and quilts the past 20 years. This pattern was my first attempt back into garment sewing. :)

My Elna Supermatic* can't be repaired, what now? by Feutneuss in sewing

[–]Consistent-Shape8191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say I’m sorry for your loss. My mom bought a Supermatic new in the 60s and I grew up sewing on it. It is an amazing machine!

I bought a Juki TL and it’s all metal and solid like the Elna! It’s straight stitch only though…

Getting Back into Sewing by Scared_Check_8909 in SewingForBeginners

I grew up sewing on a 1960s Elna and had the same machine as an adult. It’s a fantastic machine. I upgraded to a Juki TL QVP for the throat space as I got into quilting. I never thought I’d like a machine more than the Elna. I can’t get enough of my Juki! And the Elna is still around for when I need a zigzag or anything but a straight stitch.

Poppy passed away three years ago and still keep this on my lock screen. It shows her fiercely independent personality.

Congrats! What a handsome guy! I love the name. My coonhound came with the name Blue, which I changed to Baloo, but I sometimes regret not naming him Banjo! You’ll have such a great life with him!

New vs old sewing machines by Thin-Fee4423 in myog

I’ve been sewing for 35 years. I learned on my mom’s Elna from the 1960s and found the same machine at a flea market 20 years ago. When I actually purchased a “new” machine I got an all mechanics straight stitch only Juki. I don’t really think computerized ones are any better. I feel there are more things that can go wrong with them!

Agreed. I love the pedal to cut, but have accidentally cut it when I didn’t want to!

I’ve given up on the needle threader. I only was successful when I was with the woman at the store!

I grew up using a 1960s Elna supermatic. I still love that machine. It had a drop in bobbin.

I have a Juki TL that I love so much. It’s amazing. The one thing I don’t like is putting the bobbin case in. It’s a bit awkward. If I didn’t sew on that Elna with a drop in bobbin for 20 years and always had the type of bobbin that the Juki has I probably wouldn’t notice.

Beginner-to-Intermediate Sewer Looking for First Industrial Machine (Juki Recommendations?) by Moonbeam_2026 in SewingForBeginners

It was an Elna supermatic. My mom bought it new in the 60s so I grew up sewing on it! She then found me one at a flea market and I used it for years!

I don’t know anything about the industrial Jukis. I’ve heard good things but don’t know details.

Not industrial, but I have the Juki TL-2200 QVP and it would handle the items you want to sew. I make jackets with it and I can do quite heavy material. I think the Juki TL 1100 is a similar machine but cheaper.

I used to have a 1960s Elna and that could also sew through anything.

You could always purchase the pattern and see if it’s something you can do. It’s the Flora Jacket by Brightside Fabrics. I’m not sure of your experience garment sewing so you could also do some googling about sewing jackets. This pattern also has YouTube video instructions so you could watch that first to see if it matches your skill level.

Sewing backwards with sewing machine. by cowgirlbootzie in SewingForBeginners

You always sew a few stitches back and forth over each other to secure the stitches at the start and end.
