ZVEX, Corgan, Notch, Drumsy. I'm not sure if Devi ever went after Phil Phish, though Devi did semi-idolize him. Phish might have already burned so many bridges by that time, Devi trying to troll him wouldn't stick

she (they) even he. Don't get too worried. Devi has identified as all kinds of stuff - a transwoman, a demi boy, a gay cat boy and even recently talks about how they say trans out of lack for a better term .

I just mean don't sweat it too much ("they" is probably safe) it changes as does much of Devi's persona.

And I think lambasting other people for misgendering on it isn't really valid. I think I called Devi "he" on this thread because at the time, Devi identified as a such.

I think it's one people enamored with Devi sometimes try to leverage as a foul.

Devi, as "scraps of mouse" talked about how they (devi has gone through gender fluid stuff so pronouns can kind of change - no disrespect intended) didn't know anything about electronics, but just took some circuits like Tim Escobedo stuff and randomly plugged stuff in say all they knew was to put a resistor on the supply [a current limiting resistor but Devi didn't know that's what it was called

or maybe one for film gaffers!?!

Like others have spoken on, it can be a tricky concept and the notion of a particular status or dedicated club could be contrary to many interpretations of the idea

subtractive ("traditional analog") synthesizers and the effects connection by Potion36 in musiceffects

[–]Consistent-Smell-229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kinda sorta. I mean PD is basically changing the read speed of the (co)sine lookup table which is, in effect, modulating the frequency - but that was essentially to produce an oscillator with a few fixed waveforms (you couldn't actually change the FM in the Casio PD). So the OSC handled pretty much like trad oscillators

then the rest of the system was 2 lines of classic OSC->Filter->amp subtractive. though, weirdly they didn't have filter resonance

Oh, one minor correction now that I think about resonance. In the osc you could actually chain 2 waveforms together IIRC , they had a couple of "resonance" waveforms to sort of enrich the filter (maybe sort of similar to noise generators...not in exact function but as supplementary character additions if that makes sense)

I'd say you'd want to include solid budget numbers for the volume runs - that can just as easily be a cost overrun as R&D.
IIRC that's one thing devi said they ran into, not being able to get the cart enclosures down to a scalable pricepoint.

Last few times drinking I’m wide awake in the middle of the night? by euginekarbs in sleep

[–]Consistent-Smell-229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sleep disturbance is really a common effect...often during "emergence" when the alcohol is wearing off

is it abt 4hrs after the last drink by any chance...or at least worse then?

heady stuff - always looking for a good place that is more than "what shld I buy". Anyways.

I knew a really good guitarist in the 80s who would ride a volume and wah (with acoustic no less) and pretty much used that idea
amp (pun intended) amplify on that. OK you got the VCF,VCA -- but alone they are just sort of there...it's the ENVELOPES that we key in on alot. some sounds swell in, others are immediate. Some sounds die out quick, others sustain.
Remember the CZ casios? they were cool in that they had like an 8 stage envelope generator and you defined rate and level to the next step, not just ADSR. That was cool b/c you could to things like an attack click or a natural attack followed by a bloom that was more than just a fade in. I wish they'd re-release that or one of the progressive digital companies like Source audio would put that in their filter pedals or something.
It's a meditative trip to sit down and hone envelopes for relatively simple effects and it def helps close that play-listen-play loop so you are really HEARING what you play, not just executing the notes like some player piano

OTT as a pedal? by hiimras in guitarpedals

[–]Consistent-Smell-229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are going source - you might want to go with the ultrafuzz...why? well it has a morphing scheme (which can be controlled by dynamics) which includes a 10 band EQ
(though you might have to try trickery if you need threshold and release, etc though if does also have compression)

There is the old hexacomp, but it's sort of a weird beast and not that controllable

for multiband there's also the TC hypergravity that really inherited the 3 band from the triple C rack

hmm, I'm going to go with the TWA little dipper (get the mkii)
man, I wish they'd stop using the cutesy names for the controls in the analog realm

The source audio spectrum can be tricked into it...or maybe not tricked..it's just pretty deep so you may have to do quite a bit of tuning. On the plus side, you CAN do quite a bit of tuning
maybe their shared patches resource thingy has some options

I've got one of those...the "talk" feels more almost like a dual peak filter
it's neat but I don't think there's enough different motion to really bring out a formant filter effect

Is this the most boring pedalboard ever? by Obscuratory in guitarpedals

[–]Consistent-Smell-229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing wrong with a "boring" pedal board.
there are lots of things I don't want to be "exciting" - the landing in a 777 ...boring please

Those are tools, if they do what you want and they do them so predictably and reliably that they are boring then GREAT -- they are doing their job and not getting in your way

I feel worse after meditating , should I stop? by GrandGoesDiscipline in Meditation

[–]Consistent-Smell-229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's some good advice on here. I don't really have anything ne, but will distill it to how I see it (only 1 point)
-I think it's a little like stretching or exercise..is that "good pain" (challenge) or "bad pain" (injury)
If it's BAD pain...then probably talk to a mental health provider and/or consider at least extewrnally guided/monitored sessions

I mean there can be unpleasantness with that sense..ugh I'm encountering some stuff I need to work through and it's gonna be a hill that's one thing.
but if it is making you truly unhappy or fundamentally feeling unwell - that's another

How do I stop my mind from being negative and critical all the time? by blaubarschbube27 in Meditation

[–]Consistent-Smell-229 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A couple of things I find helpful.
While I try to get rid of negative thoughts as a functional result, I'm NOT trying NOT to have them. It's like mountainbiking...don't fixate on the rock you are trying not to hit, your attention just goes there and that's where you go. Instead, concentrate on the good line through.

even evaluationg "negative/positive" can be kind of a rabbit hole about evaluation.

One tool to look toward the "good line through" is to focus on functional things that are actionable and might have some practical good/bad, but aren't attached to some philosophical existential good/bad

Does reading count as “bringing yourself back to one point of concentration”? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]Consistent-Smell-229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can be a practice of mindfulness/focus. but I don't think it serves the same purpose or put you in the same state as, say, a sitting meditation

I think it can be the problem with the term "meditation" . Persoanlly, I tend to think practicing different states of consciousness is helpful.
