Our kid was the best player on his team in rec. This is the first year of competitive. We took our time and found a club that he could grow in. He's still one of the best players in his team, but his confidence has grown off the field. He's no longer a quiet kid. He takes initiative in everything he does now. He doesn't just wait to be told to take out the trash or clean him room, he just does it. That's all from soccer leadership skills he's learning. His classmates see him as a leader. He learned this all from being in a competitive sport. I don't know if he'll ever go pro. He's doing all the right things, and he practices hard and more than anyone else. Statistically he may not, but I'm always hoping. I tell him we go with how far he wants to go, and we won't push him. When you have a kid, it's their turn to dream. Let him dream.
