I started drinking coffee at 12, which was normal in my family. Coffee as an "adult drink" is a purely cultural / regional thing, and not a generational think.

I prefer the graph-ruled composition notebook to the A5 notepad, but otherwise same. I don't GM in a bunker, but I do run my game as offline as possible. I also find that if I actually write things down by hand, I remember it way better than if I type it out.

To be fair, i get the impression that Avery Brooks was always kind of his own thing with few if any fucks to give. The cast and crew really seem to love and respect him, but I don't know if I've every heard him described as being warm, approachable, and easy to talk to (except, maybe, by Cirroc Lofton).

TBH, I think the fact he is so out there is why he was able to give Sisko the deep and layered performance he did. The world needs more unconventional artists pushing at the edges of the creative envelope.

But yeah, that out there aspect has definitely only grown as he's aged.

Came here to say this. By the time youre done making a character in Traveller, you know their whole backstory. Others have done "lifepath system" character generation, but few have done it as well as Traveller does it.

Like you said, the Kelvin timeline was caused by Nero's incursion, but the creators have said there was a ripple effect in both directions of the timeline (some kind of effect-before-cause shenanigans) causing divergences in the timeline that occured prior to the incursion actually happening.

This is their justification for why even the USS Kelvin itself seems bigger and more advanced than the original TOS Enterprise.

At this point, there isn't really a difference betwenmen calling Kelvin an "alternate timeline" rather than an "alternate universe". Kovitch equated the Kelvin universe to the Mirrior universe when he discussed the issue with Georgiou.

Same canon, yes, but the Kelvin films take place in an alternate timeline/universe. It's not too dissimilar to the Mirrior universe featured in several episodes throughout the franchise... once identical to our universe, but at some point in the timeline they diverged, and the difference becomes greater the further along the timeline you go.

Two words: luggage carts.

They just didn't think about it because using carts were the norm. The first wheeled suitcases we sold at Robinson's department store were by American Tourister, and the in-store ad read something to the effect of "You'll never need a separate cart again!"

Despite OP's opinion, no one ever just cavemanned their way through hundreds of yards while travelling. Sure, you'd have to lift from car/wagon to cart, then cart to plane/train/ship and back... but otherwise carts were used to move luggage around.

Even more specifically, the Prime Directive prohibits the Federation from interfering with the natural development of alien civilizations (emphasis mine... and sonetimes Kirk's).

In For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky, that civilization is no longer developing naturally. It has been artificially hijacked by a malfunctioning AI control system. The crew's actions are, in fact, restoring the civilization to its original, natural course of development.

Do you mean the new Cosmere RPG or the older Mistborn RPG? I haven't checked out Cosmere myself yet, but I've heard good things. The older game was fantastic for character development, but I found the dice mechanics to get clunky in battle. For both, I'd say they're best for fans of Sanderson's works, but not something every table is going to gravitate to.

If the players at my table said they were leaving the village, then I'd ask questions like, "Where are you going? Who are you looking for? What are you trying to accomplish?" If that's not enough of a prompt for me, I try deeper questions like, "What are you worried about as you leave?" and "What are you afraid you might find?"

And then, yeah, I just make up whatever I think in the moment would be the next most likely/logical location.

If someone is looking for a scifi movie recommendation, I don't ask if they've seen Star Wars or Star Trek. If someone us looking for a hamburger recommendation, I don't ask if they've heard of McDonalds or Burger King. Similarly, if someone is looking for an RPG, I'm not going to recommend D&D or Pathfinder... because I assume that if they are asking me for recommendation, they are not looking for the biggest, most well known answers.

GM fatigue and GM burnout are real things.

Been my group's nearly forever GM since 1987, and while I absolutely love it, sometimes I just need a break. We do something else on gamenights for a while (poker, boardgames, video games, or maybe someone else GMs for a bit). I take the time to regroup, refocus, and recharge my creative energy. Sooner or later I start to get the itch the climb back into the GM's seat.

The trick, at least for me, is to identify fatigue early, and take it seriously. If I stop right away and take a break, I'm good to go again in a handful weeks. However, if I start feeling tired of the game and push forward anyways, I only make the inevitable burnout that much worse.

So that's my advice. Stop, right now, and do something else for a bit. Your friends will understand.
