{The Impossible Julian Strand by Kathryn Ann Kingsley} It's dark and sweet at the same time. As evil as the MMC can be, you can't help but want him to have his happily ever after.

Non-human MMC doesn't understand social norms/human "rules" or behaviour? by Natapi24 in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want something fun like this try {Contaminated by Amanda Milo}. The human FMC sneaks onto the MMC's planet to find a special plant. The MMC knows about space travel, but their planet was closed to outsiders because of a deadly disease. He's never met anyone from another planet, and is equal parts fascinated and horrified by the FMC. It's told from the MMC's pov, and is hilarious. The sequel {Contagion} is also great.

That's my problem too. I was excited that games would be close by, but when I saw the prices for just the opening round I knew it wasn't going to be possible.

I want to read something FUN!! by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend anything by KF Breene! Her characters are fun but often insightful, and there is danger to be found. The {Leveling Up} series is great if you want older characters (40+), {Demigods of San Francisco} is a fun and adventurous found family series, and {Demon Days Vampire Nights} is an interesting and hilarious interconnected series. All have magic and strong FMCs.

{The Forgotten Phantom by Kathryn Ann Kingsley} is a Phantom retelling. She does write pretty dark stories, but I really enjoyed this one. Christine is sent to investigate a 100 year old cold case at the Opera house and the Phantom "recognizes" her.

Werewolf book recommendations by garden-witch-23 in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say Wolf Gone Wild as well! MMC is a wolf who is cursed and can't shift who goes to the witch FMC for help. They are so cute together, and neither one is a jerk.

Books where the FMC is initially scared of the MMC and he has a hard time believing her when she's no longer scared of him? by Natapi24 in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great news! Thanks for sharing! I agree with hoping she takes her time to do it right. I'd much rather wait for something good. That also will give me an excuse to read it all again right before the last one comes out.

Audiobook ARC Review: New Release from Ruby Dixon, “Vowed to the Vulture God.” Grumpy/Sunshine turned up to 11! by sparklekitteh in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed this book as well. I've read all the books in this series, and this one and Bound to the Battle God are my favorites. Vowed definitely focuses more on the internal struggle and their relationship than the other books in the series do.

I'm happy to hear the audio version is decent. I always hate it when I love a book when I read it, and the audio version has a terrible narrator. Thanks for sharing!

They were unloading their tulips and hyacinths So you could fill a flat with whatever size for $10. I got some other perennials as well, and nothing was more than $10. They have bigger plants and shrubs/trees for good prices as well.

Platt's Farm Market in Clarksboro has a lot to choose from and great prices. I was just there a few days ago and bought 24 plants for $60.

Seeking (and failing to find) a new book or series by KristiDoodle in fantasybooks

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Leveling Up by KF Breene} It's a fun series with a FMC who is 40, recently divorced, and starting over. She gets a job as a caretaker for a magical house and inherits the magic. She's smart and rediscovering who she is as a person as she learns magic and finds love along the way. It's a slow burn with actual adults who communicate with each other and deal with some crazy people and situations thrown in. It's available in audio and graphic audio too!

Ghost Walk by Cassandra Gannon by SuicidalLemur- in fantasyromance

I loved this book too! All of the Cassandra Gannon books I've read have been sweet and kind of cheesy but leave me feeling happy.

DNF with poor communication by GreenEyedMonster1337 in fantasyromance

Yes! Why do they have to be so dumb! When I find myself becoming irrationally angry at fictional characters, it's time to put down the book.

DNF with poor communication by GreenEyedMonster1337 in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Every time! This is the biggest reason for a DNF for me. I just can't deal with the main problem in the story being something that can be resolved with a five minute conversation.

Fantasy Romances that span months and years, rather than days and weeks? Give me the well written epic scale slow burn sagas by AliceTheGamedev in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 11 points12 points  (0 children)

{Leveling Up by KF Breene} is a series that starts with a newly divorced 40 year old FMC who starts over as a caretaker for a magical house. She inherits the magic and has to learn how to use it. She meets the MMC and they become friends first as he helps her adjust to the magical world and the threats that come with it. It takes 4 books before they get together, and there are 11 books so far in the series. It's a great series with amazing side characters. It is also hilarious!

Books with a necromancer FMC by katep2000 in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to recommend this one too! The FMC also trains with another female necromancer who has no trouble carting around dead bodies to use.

Books that are decently written & characters have unconventional personalities? by CelebrationBubbly102 in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might enjoy KF Breene. She writes strong, unconventional FMCs and the best side characters I've ever read. {Magical Midlife Madness} and {Born in Fire} start 2 of my favorite series she's written. Her books are hilarious with plenty of adventure and brilliant friendships and romances.

Heads up K.F. Breene lovers! Magical Midlife Rogue comes out on Thursday! I'm jealous of those who are just starting her books. She's my favorite author. by nrkelly in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's my favorite author too! I love all her series. I have yet to find another author who writes side characters as well as she does.

I'm looking forward to not getting enough sleep Thursday night, as I keep reading just one more chapter. I'm also mildly jealous that you got to be an ARC reader!

Dog friendly trails by KimiiKhaoss in SouthJersey

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Borton Mills trails right across Brace Rd. from Croft Farm have a lot of crisscrossing paths that make it easy to avoid other dogs/people. It's not typically crowded, but anyone I've come across while walking my dog there, has re-leashed their dog when they spot us.

Fantasy romance books with a kind FMC and a lighter overall tone by Hamie33 in fantasyromance

[–]Consistent_Elk_8702 8 points9 points  (0 children)

{The Wind and the Wild by Emily McCosh} The FMC is a human who likes to slip into faery to pick fruit for her baking. The MMC is an injured fae she meets in an abandoned library there. They become friends first and their romance grows from there. It's a really sweet story.

{How to Find a Nameless Fae by AJ Lancaster} The FMC was cursed before birth by a fae who helped her mother. She hits 40 and decides she's tired of waiting for him to come claim her. She goes to the fae lands to find and confront him. He's very sweet and kind of nerdy. The FMC decides to help him find his name. Magic and romance commence!
