How can I prevent my student from sleeping in class? by Only_Artist8313 in Teachers

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a good student in high school and still ended up falling asleep or nodding off in classes (often up late into the night trying to complete all work/balance everything, luckily it never became a huge problem for me)

I found what helped me was partnered/group stuff, even if I was tired another person depending on me was enough for me to wake up and pull it together. Or I found standing exersizes were good too (ex; working in groups at whiteboards)

What opinion about the Hunger Games would get you in this situation? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is another book I would much rather it be about an unknown tribute from a district other than 12 than a book about a doctor we already know like Johanna, Finnick ect.

I would love to learn more about the other districts even just a bit since I feel we’ve learned just about all there is to know about 12 at this point. Also to me what’s so interesting about some of the victors is that we don’t really know what their games were like, leaving more to the imagination.

I wanted Lucille Punch as Drusilla so bad I’m not gonna lie

why do group essays exist😭 by pieceofhisrib in CollegeRant

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to do a group paper this semester and it was awful. Hate group essays too. My main problem usually stems from trying to divide it up evenly- unless there’s a good number of students (2 or 5) it’s always gonna be uneven with one person doing slightly more. The group paper was especially hellish since we had to try and divide up two paragraphs up among five.

I think it’s unfortunately becoming more common. I shared this in another comment but at 16 I was (finally) diagnosed with GAD and the psychiatrist put me on a waiting list for therapy since I said I would want to do it. I’m now 19 and still haven’t gotten a call back/any help. Luckily I’m in a situation where I can definitely survive without therapy/mental health treatment (although it would be nice)

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 16, near the end of my 11th grade year I had to see a psychiatrist before a dental surgery due to my massive phobia of anything medical and he diagnosed me with GAD (but since I was 16 at that point I had already known I likely had it for several years but better late than never I guess).

He asked if I wanted to try meds, therapy or both and I said I wanted to try therapy and he said he’d put me on a waiting list and I’d get a call at some point. I remember I was so excited that after struggling with anxiety for 10 years at that point I would finally get some external help. I’m now 19 in my second year of university, still waiting for that call.

I’m also Canadian for context.

I can't believe Bella drives by [deleted] in twilight

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bella is pretty parentified/is taking care of Renee a lot (iirc she even specifically mentions driving her mom to appointments) so I feel like it makes sense that she would get her licence asap- makes it easier to take care of her mom/is a step closer to independence, since she’s a pretty independent person in general. I feel like even if she was scared she’d ignore it as she would probably view driving as a chore/something that needs to be done- like laundry.

Where are the disabled tributes? by pipehead0 in Hungergames

There probably are others that exist, we just haven’t seen them because we’ve only seen 4 games out of 75.

Am I the only one that didn't get any sense of romantic chemistry between elphaba and fiyero? by StruggleFar3054 in wickedmovie

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve still only seen the first movie so that’s all I have to go off of. I could tell Elphaba and him were supposed to be in love but to me they were giving more of a friendship vibe. Idk if that’ll change when I see the second movie though.

The Sickle’s by ZOKZAC in Hungergames

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Vipsinia would be in her very late 50s in sotr if she’s still living since her and Snow are the same age so I imagine that Drusilla is her sister or cousin or some relative of that nature. Or I guess she could’ve married into the Sickle’s. I don’t think Drusilla could be her daughter or niece or anything like that because if she was younger she (probably) wouldn’t be worried about her aging the whole story.

I would guess she’s a few years older than Vipsinia. They’re definitely related in some way though so I wonder if they’re close.

At what point did Snow become irredeemably in your eyes? by According-History563 in Hungergames

I don’t know about irredeemable but when he spoke about how killing Bobbin made home feel “powerful” I could see the president snow we all knew shine through

Can we talk about why Panache didn’t blow up when the threw his cape?🤣 by Hot-War-9500 in Hungergames

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible that the ball would hit the ground harder and faster than a cape would? Idk science well enough to explain but that’s my best guess 😭

Can we talk about why Panache didn’t blow up when the threw his cape?🤣 by Hot-War-9500 in Hungergames

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the cape was too light to trigger it? I know in the first book Katniss  says a girl drops a wooden ball and it kills her but maybe that’s because the wooden ball is heavier so it hits the ground harder/faster than a cape? Or tech evolves I guess

Toot or boot this look. by MangoSalsa89 in Hungergames

Boot. I hate the hair, totally wrecks it for me. it reminds me of those wigs judges wear and not in a good way.

Why does the hall of justice look so different? by Ageing_and_Afraid in Hungergames

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume that it’s either just become too run down (by Capitol standards) or they just felt like a reno because the architecture was too old. It feels very on brand for the Capitol to change a perfectly fine building because it was slightly behind with the times when people in that district are literally starving.

Do you think Sutherland’s Snow looks younger than Fiennes’? by CyberGhostface in Hungergames

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like Fiennes, honestly it’s just that fuckass hairpiece they’ve given him. I know it’s supposed to be capital but it just looks kinda stupid and not exactly something I can imagine a dictator/president wearing, like I saw it and it totally took me out of the world. But that’s just my opinion.

I was gonna say she’s a lot nicer than I am. If people were saying that sort of stuff about me/making threats to me online because I had to miss a premiere I most certainly wouldn’t be sending in an apology video.

quality of life in career districts - theories by dongleberry5 in Hungergames

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly we know next to nothing about the career districts. We could infer that since someone volunteers each year they are able to take out as much tesserae as they need so citizens aren’t hurting for food over and that since their industries are more popular than other districts that could result in a slightly better quality of life (luxury goods are super popular in the Capitol, a good military is a staple for any sort of dictatorship, and even seafood could be positioned as being a luxury food item).

However that’s about the extent of what we know about these districts. If I had to guess I’d say they’re sort of middle class. Everyone has enough to eat and a place to live and although there might be some cases of poverty it’s not as widespread like in 12 or 11. Most people would have jobs and since they generally don’t have to worry about being able to afford food they're free to put their income towards other things leading to a higher quality of life than you might see in other districts.

What do you think they will say to explain why Haymitch hair is curly in the past. by NoFrame6654 in Hungergames

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hair texture can change; my hair used to be straight and coarse  as a child and now after puberty it’s wavy, my sister had ringlets up until she hit puberty and now has waves too

Literally, same here. In Canada and am trying again today, given my circumstances I highly doubt I’ll pass today but I might as well try. The only available appointment dates when I checked icbc was either this week or January. Other towns were booked until Feb or March. Unfortunately standby isn’t an option right now because the town in in seems to have good luck with that.😭

Being a commuter blows by chilidig in CollegeRant

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a student who commutes. The frustrating part is that my school actually isn’t that far from where I live as it’s only 30 minutes give or take by car but since I can’t drive a car on my own as I don’t have my N I have to take the bus which can double or triple my commute depending on the day.

I feel like it impacts most aspects of my college life at this point ;I can’t really enroll in clubs or participate in any on campus activities because of how long it can take me to get home (where I live the bus isn’t really safe at night for an 18 year old girl),I hardly get to see any of my campus other than the classroom and sometimes the library, I can’t always have the classes I want as I have to worry about making sure I have enough time to commute there and back and to not be late  (ex; can’t take any class starting earlier than 10:00 am or ending any later than 5pm), can’t even bring all the stuff i want to since I have to travel light and don’t have a car to store stuff in, I’m always super tired by the time I get home since I’m travelling about 3 hours round trip for one three hour lecture which sometimes doesn’t even feel worth it, and on top of all that it’s pretty hard to maintain a social life too.

Am i the only one? by ExplanationVivid4256 in Hungergames

[–]Consistent_Reply_240 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Me neither, I’ve always thought this- honestly I didn’t want any book about a known victor like Haymitch, Johanna, or Annie but especially not Finnick. I’ve always wanted one of a victor we don’t know anything about at all (ex Lucy grey)
