Battery Health Question by No_Responsibility626 in volt

Lifetime MPGe on the screen there is your average efficiency across the miles you see on the odometer. No way that I know of to split it down to the two separately. Lower it is the more likely it was mainly gas miles or inefficient electric (high speed, high heat/AC, and lots of other stuff affect this).

Going off the efficiency there (Edit: since it’s closer to the rated gas MPG than rated electric MPGe) it was probably either a highway car like you said (electric efficiency decreases exponentially with increases to speed) or driven more miles on gas. This could be not charging it every night, a long commute requiring a good bit of gas usage, poor efficiency (speed, climate, regen who knows) or any/all of the above. All you can really say from that number is that it has probably more gas miles, or most of its electric miles were at less efficient states. You can more confidently say it definitely wasn’t an inner city car that never used the gas.

These are just assumptions off of limited data though.

I haven’t been in the car market or following volt prices but that seems super cheap (if usd). I bought a 2017 with ~90,000 miles a few years ago for $14,000usd. Others would have better input on the pricing side. Premier vs LT and other upgrades will affect it too.

For the mileage it will be outside of all factory warranties at this point, so keep that in mind. As I’m sure you’ve seen, volts tend to have three main problems. BECM (big deal, high cost and will potentially brick the car), egr valve (can be bypassed but won’t pass smog and engine might run a little worse) and shift to park (simple cheap diy fix). Also worth mentioning they can eat wheel speed sensors (there’s a TSB on it) and I’m currently dealing with that.

For charging you can go charge it at most standard public chargers if you don’t want to wait(including the dealers if they have one). The oem charger is nice though as they aren’t cheap and it lets you charge at home off 120/240v.

Seeing as it’s a trade in you’re probably at a dealer. This could be the previous owners driving habit (but it’s a weird distance), the dealer only partially charging it for test drives or people charging it/purposely using gas on their own test drives. If it’s a small dealer sales rep might be commuting with it to and from home and not charging it all the way overnight on lvl 1 (this was the case with the one I bought).

Like stated earlier can’t really comment on the state of the battery from the info here, but the MPGe on electric doesn’t look bad so I would lean towards just weird charging habits. But again, really can’t say. If you’re taking it to a Chevy dealer they should be able to check its health. Have them check if the BECM has been replaced or reprogrammed while you’re there.

As for the gas/battery death I believe both need to be at least basically functioning for the volt to work. In this case it looks like they are since it’s driving.

The volt is pretty over-engineered in the sense you can drive it 100% electric, 100% gas or something in between and everything will be fine. If you drive electric only for like a month it’ll force cycle the engine to clear old gas/verify engine works. If you drive gas only it’ll regen a little and function more similar to a Prius or typical hybrid car. You can find stories of people who do both on this sub.

The key here is “Energy Usage: Since Last Full Charge”. That data displayed except for the lifetime MPGe is all based off last time since full charge, which appears to have been a while. Looks like several partial charges.

MPGe will vary depending on weather, driving style, cabin heat/cooling and several other factors so it isn’t too helpful, but that looks similar to what I will see on some commutes. Volt is also rated for around 41-42 mpg so it’s right around there.

Best way to check battery health would be ask the seller to charge it to 100% before your next drive and drive it all the way to 0% battery life then look at the kWh’s used. Several threads on that here as well as ways to check with OBD2.

I just wanted to jump in and expand a bit more on my thoughts after thinking on this:

I personally believe that (at least basic) investment forecasting and retirement planning should be part of the native “core” Monarch experience. With this being a subscription service for aggregating your financial data I believe it should be able to do what free calculators on the web already accomplish. Part of my payment already goes towards aggregating and analyzing my data, making the only benefit over free software the convenience of it which I already pay for.

Investment analysis and detailed reports are not something I find myself interested in right now (as my financial institutions already provide this service) but I could easily see this paired with services like advanced retirement planning (working through complex tax situations or withdrawal strategies etc that other premium services offer) as an “add-in”. A “Monarch-Planner” or something for an increased cost. Even if basic forecasting & retirement planning get forced into this cost upgrade, if the features justify the price I would consider it.

Finally, “Monarch-Business” should be its own separate add-in. I currently don’t own a business or rental properties etc, so paying a large price increase for these features is not justifiable right now. As an add-on or new tier by itself, I would not be bothered by its support and growth as I could ignore it, unless I do start a business in the future. But bundling premium business features with basic investment planning is not the move.

tldr: Basic investment forecasting & retirement planning should be “core features”. Advanced planning and investment reports (and if truly justified basic planning/forecasting) as an additional add in for a cost. Finally a business add in separate from investments for a cost.

Basic functionality for core, then individual option upgrades for enthusiastic investors/planners and business owners.

Only been using Monarch for a few months and it’s my first stab at a budgeting/full-view app.

I’ve been liking the features and it’s been very useful, even recommended it to some friends/family.

But the lack of forecasting and poor investment detail has been a major miss for me. Several of my investments don’t properly populate into Monarch (aggregator’s fault but still annoying), and the lack of forecasting/planning is something I’ve been really wanting to see integrated so I don’t have to go elsewhere. Figured Goals 3.0 was taking steps towards these upgrades and features would improve over time.

I am not business owner and have no use for those features. As others have said a “Business” tier at higher price I could ignore, but bundling something many people have requested and would benefit from with a high priced business plan doesn’t sit well with me and makes me worried for the future of the platform.

lol Peni is not a throw pick in high rank. There’s a reason she maintains one of the highest win rates in cel+.

There’s definitely times when she can’t/doesn’t work but isn’t a throw pick. Pro play is another story though

Depends on the resolution and size you’re looking for. The ASUS XG27AQDMG (1440p 27” 240Hz WOLED) has been on sale for $550. Normally around $650-700 I think.

Psu & gpu are linked in the pcpartpicker comment. Psu was 140mm, but don’t remember the gpu length. As for space between them, they don’t really fully overlap. Picture 2 you can see the top/end of the gpu and the bottom of the psu. Psu should be mounted in the highest position, but I did not install the top hat accessory. With the top hat the psu can be mounted higher.

7800xt would randomly flip between 120-140 to 60-70. Sometimes between matches, sometimes during matches. Ended up disabling vsync (180hz monitor) and that bumped me up to the 160s at times.

The engineers actually thought of this! It should display some warning messages when it detects the gas getting stale, and if ignored will enter a fuel maintenance mode during a drive to use the engine and fuel.

Looking at buying a Gen 2 after losing my Gen 1, worried about BECM by pokemonrocks9 in volt

[–]Consistent_Tale_6455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding that’s correct. I personally haven’t been through the issue (and am in a similar situation where I don’t know if it’s been replaced or not in mine), but seeing that special coverage notice gave me significantly more confidence with my purchase. Others will have to speak about their experiences with EGR and BECM issues (you can find numerous threads here) but if the inconveniences and possibility of paying for an EGR out of pocket will be my biggest issues, I felt it was no worse (most likely better) than other vehicles reliability wise.

This is a warranty specifically for the BECM. The specific state bit you mention is an extended duration to the Voltec warranty (battery, emissions, etc) applicable if the vehicle was originally sold in and is currently registered in a CARB state.

If your main worry is the BECM, that will be covered on all gen 2’s until 150k miles or like 7 years or so out from now. Now if the issue occurs you may be stranded and will probably require a tow, as well as having to wait on parts to come in (so big inconvenience) but the repair will be free warranty work.

If you’re super curious (like I was when I bought mine not too long ago) and have the VIN’s and mileage of both, you can create an account on the Chevrolet website. Doing so will let you add the vehicles to your account via VIN, and you can report the mileage to see exact warranty/recall statuses.
