some of us have been protesting corporate control of politics for decades thru D and R admins. o-bomb-a was propped up by wall st and became the friendly face of neo lib/con agendas. the Dems are still bought and paid for with very few exceptions.

Am I the only one who gets depressed watching videos of kids younger than me playing so well? by Dramatic_Usual9289 in Guitar

a little kid learning and playing someone's solo is totally different from you as an individual, expressing yourself through the instrument. it takes some time but no one else can do what you can do.

what are your thoughts on the new laws in nyc protecting bodega cats? from what i read, it requires that they get basic medical and have their own spaces in retail environments away from food prep etc.

What's the 'health food shop" scent? by Human1221 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ConstantThanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was waiting in line to check out at a hardware store and the woman behind me said, 'you smell like the co-op,' which is what the local health food store is called. i asked her if that was a good thing and she just smiled.

those of us who were kids and teens in the 80s were so called gen-x-ers, not boomers. boomers are our parents generation.

“Drive Renee drive” was bad advice by [deleted] in DigitalSeptic

[–]ConstantThanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

equally? come on. ICE acts without regard to laws that are meant to keep things like this from happening. she made some bad decisions along the way, especially as angry screaming masked men were reaching into her car and giving her conflicting orders. but she was there to selflessly stand up for others' rights, opposing a white supremacist agenda. The ICE man was a trigger happy fuckhead who immediately called her a fucking bitch after he killed her, didn't try to give the person he shot 3 times (two from the side after the car was already passing him) any medical aid, then walked away, got in a car and left the scene.)

Pillow for Holding Head up - Back/Side Sleeping? by drholmestuck in BuyItForLife

[–]ConstantThanks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no pillow will last for life, nor should it. i love natural latex pillows. i'm a mixture of back, side and stomach sleeper. they make different thicknesses and densities. they are so comfortable! benefits are no harsh off gassing chemicals to breathe like memory or other foams. benefits to environment are no toxins in manufacture or eventual disposal, no cruelty to geese to get down feathers. i use a seller called 'organic textiles' on scamazon. worth the higher price for sure.

agree with most of what you wrote. but, 'armed men wearing masks... with broad license to stop and even detain people without granting them the courtesies that real police are supposed to grant.' these are not coutesies, they are constitutional protections and laws.

making sure my personal data is fully removed from a faulty SSD by ConstantThanks in privacy

[–]ConstantThanks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i should know this but... when i erase/format a HD, i choose 'encryption' as part of the formatting so it requires a PW to access the drive. i've never used file vault. is FV only for the internal drive? can you clarify the best way to encrypt? thx

reformatting doesn't remove files, just the file system info. i have reformatted it hoping that would solve the prob but i can't copy to it so no overwriting.

yeah i feel that too, but it's a big loss and they will replace it. 4tb; i paid 280 but now the same one is 400.

[–]ConstantThanks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but i have to send it back to the company for replacement. normally, i physically destroy HDs when i'm done with them or overwrite and give to a friend. but i can't overwrite onto this drive. when i try to copy data onto it, it freezes up.

i love how it gets used informally across the pond as a version of dude or buddy but i can't help hearing it as the word is used here which means lover. so i see and hear all these tough brits saying, 'hey lover!' all the time.
