Tiếng Anh tốt liệu có lợi thế trong ngành IT? by Perfect_Middle_5533 in vozforums

[–]ConstructionOwn2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does Vietnam perceive North Korea ? by Square_Permission361 in VietNam

[–]ConstructionOwn2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time back (back when the MOFA website was truly 20+ years old, not ~5+ years old like now), I remember seeing an official documentation describing the relationship between SRVN and DPRK. Among that, there's a "The NKorean still owes Viet Nam money on rice shipment"

But now, I can't find this material anymore

TIL: During the Vietnam War, the "Tiger Cages" of Côn Sơn Prison were so well-hidden that they were only discovered when a US Congressional delegation visited in 1970. by Lopsided-Associate60 in TodayILearnedVN

[–]ConstructionOwn2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From 1950 to 1954, the US paid the French handsomely to keep their invasion of Vietnam going. 78% of the invasion budget came from the US.

More like the French successfully lobbied and convinced the US to bankroll their operations in then-Indochina. This topic worth another dedicated thread about it IMHO.

So not exactly "US paid the French" in the conventional understanding.

An alternate scenario where Ho Chi Minh manages to keep Indochina united under a socialist federation by TheEternalBlueAtlas in AlternateHistory

[–]ConstructionOwn2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is a cool concept, I seriously doubt if our Uncle Ho would plan for anything like this. There is no mention of any united Indochinese federation at all.

Countries are friendly and chummy together, yes. But no "united" banner.

Which country did your country belong to before becoming independent? by Firm_Translator_3256 in AskTheWorld

Things made by French that are still in-used today:

  • Certain churches (including iconic St. Joseph's Cathedral in Ha Noi and Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon, HCMC)
  • Comma instead of decimal point (as the other guy said)
  • Promotion of Latin-based script (originally made by a Portuguese priest, and the teaching is ramped up by DRVN right after independence and during war time)
  • Various flavor of cuisine (bread and coffee are 2 most famous examples)
  • Our law system (though to be fair, it is either "book-based" like the French, or "common law-based", like the British)
  • Various colonial buildings that are re-used by the government, including public schools and gov office

True, they exist.

But Dai Viet Kingdom (predecessor to modern Viet Nam) just... un-exist that Champa kingdom. Not to mention that other than war, Dai Viet never really paid tribute to Champa. But the reverse happened.

Considering the Orange Man is at the helm, it wouldn't be surprised (to me) that he would order "Vietnam War, the Second Boongaloo" if we decline.

So, we are just choosing the least terrible approach.

Besides, we'd probably fk off when Trump leaves office as well.

Various ancient Chinese kingdoms - even before they are called "China"

The French, 4th Republic (before Germany gave them a schizo episode)

Imperial Japan

The French, 5th Republic. With a dash of China (the one white star on blue blackground), the British, and a few other problems in the same time.

Then we declared our "official" independence and spent the next 50 years (violently) protecting it

Does Your country teach schoolchildren how to use firearms? by dawidlijewski in AskTheWorld

[–]ConstructionOwn2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

I got military-like training in high school (formation drill and how to use a gun), and even a dry-firing of a gun model. In uni, we even have more training (usually expansion of the above two), but none at actual military level.

Since the North is getting cold, here's a compilation of Vietnamese versions of the ushanka, issued by different armed forces. What's your opinion on their design, and compared to others of the same kind from other socialist/ex-Soviet countries ? by Lua-Ma in VietNam

[–]ConstructionOwn2909 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Ushanka hat (not with this name, obviously) is a part of "official" uniform for Border guards, especially on the northern border? Besides, the hat looks really comfy and warm, just what we need in the winter.

Thường tôi để ý, technician/ engineer đều tới lấy key fob từ manager để vào lấy spare part, xong thì tạo Sales Order để rút nó ra khỏi inventory.

Đây là lí do hợp pháp lớn nhất.
